Under Armour Launches Footwear Optimisation

Under Armour has announced the launch of its unique Footwear Optimisation Process in collaboration with Stoke Park and Biomecaswing at the new Under Armour Golf Footwear Performance Centre.

Under Armour’s Footwear Optimisation Process

Designed to offer golfers the pinnacle of custom fitted footwear across its Award-Winning Drive Pro Series, customers will experience a 2 hour, four-step footwear fitting like no other in the game.

The Four-Step Custom Footwear Fitting Process

The first step is an initial assessment with the golfer wearing their own footwear. An initial kinetic and kinematic assessment is carried out using the BiomecaForce system. At this point key data metrics such as club speed, ball speed, spin rate, strike location and carry distances are recorded with TrackMan.

From this initial assessment the player will be recommended one of the game-changing Drive Pro Series spiked or spikeless models based on peak force, rotation, translation figures and in line with their swing signature.

Once the selected footwear, further assessment will be conducted on the BiomecaForce system to demonstrate the measured gains in both kinetic and kinematic data and alongside the TrackMan data.

In step three, golfers receive an assessment of their feet using the market-leading SIDAS Podiatech system to better understand the foots anatomy and its impact on their own golf swing. Once completed, custom insoles are built on site to promote optimised stability and an increased ability to create higher peak forces – in turn taking the performance of their footwear even further.

Once the custom insoles are built and fitted into the Drive Pro shoes, final assessment is conducted to highlight the performance gains achieved throughout the session.

Insights on the Footwear Optimisation Process

Richard Palmer Jones, Under Armour Golf UK, said: “The Under Armour Footwear Optimisation Process utilises a unique and proprietary combination of the most advanced athlete performance tracking technology in golf. This allows golfers to understand the importance and impact of their footwear to their on-course performance in simple terms through the data improvements that we see time and again when putting people through our fitting processes. The addition of SIDAS Podiatech technology allows us to take the fitting process further through the use of custom insoles – producing the ultimate experience for any golfer looking to maximise their potential.”

Chris Murtagh, Head of Instruction at Stoke Park, said: “The opportunity to launch the Footwear Optimisation Process at Stoke Park with Under Armour is incredibly exciting. Having fit customers into the Drive Pro Series since it launched in February, we’ve seen how these products have consistently improved golfers. Utilising the BiomecaForce system alongside SIDAS Podiatech technology is the natural progression to deliver the ultimate in performance footwear. Under Armour’s mission to make athletes better has established golf footwear as an essential piece of golf equipment for the first time.”

Each session costs £500 and includes 2 hours of Biomechanical analysis, both pre and post-testing, 1 pair of Drive Pro Series Spiked or Spikeless shoes, and 1 set of custom insoles.

To find out more or book a session please contact Chris Murtagh at Stoke Park on 01753 717184 or via email at [email protected].

Under Armour sets the new standard with Drive Pro and Drive Pro SL footwear

Designed with direct feedback from three-time major winner Jordan Spieth and Under Armour’s other PGA Tour athletes, including Maverick McNealy, Under Armour works closely with its golf athletes to create performance-enhancing products that meet the needs of golfers of all skill levels in both Spiked and Spikeless models.

Under Armour Drive Pro golf shoe: Stability, traction and performance

The new Drive Pro and Drive Pro SL deliver golfers the ultimate stability, traction, and performance through the innovative Swing Support System TM.

Developed with world-renowned biomechanist JJ Rivet, the revolutionary 3-layer Swing Support System TM supports the natural motion of the foot, with biomechanically correct diagonal and lateral support for golfers to unlock the power of their swing.

The Swing Support System is made up of three key advancements to take performance to new levels, while being lighter than common tour shoes in the market.

Starting from the ground up, smarter traction is delivered through a combination of Under Armour’s new custom S3 Spikes and the Tour Flex Pro Spike. Developed exclusively for Under Armour with CHAMP MacNeill Engineering, the S3 Spikes are utilised in the medial heel and lateral forefoot at the optimal angle to resist rotation in the golf swing, allowing you to harness more power.

(Photo: Under Armour)

In the midsole, Under Armour has developed the only dual-density midsole in golf. Featuring Under Armour’s HOVR TM foam and more supportive Charged Cushioning TM where it’s needed to help guide the foot in the golf swing. By using softer HOVR foam in the medial side, your foot is able to sink into the shoe when you apply your peak force and helps transition your weight more efficiently through the ball.

In the upper, Under Armour’s Swing Support Strap is fully connected to the with the S3 Spikes and integrated lacing system, providing optimised 360-degree lock-in from lateral ball to medial instep.

Under Armour Drive Pro SL: The innovative spikeless model

The Drive Pro SL replicates the same innovations in the midsole and the upper but with some notable innovations in its spikeless outsole. With a traction control plate and a hybrid outsole utilizing rubber and TPU, the Drive Pro SL provides ground penetration & torsional rigidity through the use of TPU, with rubber adding flexibility and friction to ensure there’s no compromise in performance by moving from a spiked to spikeless outsole.

Every spikeless traction point has been mapped to different heights and positions throughout the sole to ramp up performance further. By removing uniformity, Under Armour has been able develop an outsole that truly performs at the same level as spiked tour shoes.

“We’re excited to kick the new year off by releasing industry-leading footwear that help golfers take their game to the next level. The Drive Pro Series is years in the making, and we’re excited to get golfers’ reactions as they test them out on the course. Utilising Under Armour’s unique technologies, such as HOVR and the Swing Support System, we were able to create a golf shoe that pushes the boundaries of performance innovation to stand out in the market.” – Jake Haley, Senior Product Line Manager for Golf Footwear, Under Armour.

“Being a golfer isn’t a traditional 9-5 job. You’re on your feet walking the course for such a long time so it’s so important to be equipped with footwear that will help your body achieve its best on the course. I’m ecstatic that Under Armour has developed the Drive Pro, that combines comfort, style, and performance throughout the long days that we endure on the green. I look forward to showing firsthand the impact that Under Armour makes on the course with the release of the Drive Pro.” – Jordan Spieth

The Drive Pro Series can be found on UA.com and at golf retailers throughout the UK. The Drive Pro and Drive Pro SL retail for £150 GBP (EUR €170) and £130 GBP (EUR €150), respectively and carry a 1-year waterproof warranty.

Jordan Spieth signs equipment deal until 2029

Jordan Spieth has been an integral part of the Under Armour team since 2013. The then 19-year-old golfer, mind you without a PGA Tour card, signed with the textile manufacturer and has remained with it to this day. Now Under Armour is extending its profitable deal with Spieth for another four years. The American will wear the brand’s golf shoes, clothing and accessories until 2029.

Jordan Spieth: “Under Armour took a chance on me”

“I was just leaving school and I guess in other sports I would have been considered a high draft pick, but at the same time I didn’t have PGA Tour status, which in golf means everything,” Spieht explained. The then 19-year-old had recently turned pro and has been playing at Under Armour ever since. He currently has a ten-year deal, which has now been extended by another four. The decisive factor for this is probably his victory at the RBC Heritage in mid-April.

“I’ve really enjoyed being on this journey with Under Armour since I turned pro, and I can’t wait to accomplish great things together in this next phase of my career,” Spieth said. “Like me, everyone at Under Armour challenges themselves to get better every day. I’m looking forward to continuing to test their newest innovations as I know their products will help me train and perform my best for years to come.”

Golfing for a good cause

In addition to the partnership extension, Under Armour will also support the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation with one million dollars (just under 920 thousand euros) over the next eight years. The non-profit organization under Spieth’s patronage aims to make it easier for young people to get into golf. It awards scholarships and creates open golf programs for young people. The focus is particularly on breaking down socio-economic barriers and thus making it easier to get into the sport. Spieth commented, “I think access is a big thing in golf. It’s a game that I love. So, I figure maybe there’s some people that don’t know that they love it yet. It’s a game that gets you outside. It’s active. It gets you moving around. And I think that’s obviously very healthy, no matter what background, or who you are.”

Under Armour looks forward to continued collaboration

Sean Eggert, vice president of sales at Under Armour, said, “We are incredibly honored to continue our relationship with Spieth in the years to come. He is an athlete who truly embodies what it means to strive for more. Jordan’s future is bright, as evidenced by his spectacular performance at Hilton Head this weekend, and we look forward to joining him on this journey as he continues to grow with us, challenge us and make us even better at what we do. We couldn’t be more proud to have him on our team.”
