Dashcam Video Released Shows Scottie Scheffler’s Encounter with Police

A recent dashcam video released by the Louisville Metro Police Department depicts golf star Scottie Scheffler during his encounter with law enforcement on May 17. The involved officer faces disciplinary action for a rule violation.

The dashcam footage captured Scottie Scheffler attempting to bypass a roadblock near Valhalla Golf Club. Scheffler, en route to his second round at the 2024 PGA Championship, was subsequently apprehended by a police officer.

Scottie Scheffler at the PGA Championship: The Police Incident

Detective Bryan Gillis stopped Scottie Scheffler on May 17 as he entered the closed lanes. Gillis reported Scheffler disregarding instructions and proceeding, causing the officer to fall to the ground. Scheffler was charged with aggravated assault, property damage, reckless driving, and disobeying a law enforcement officer, charges he denies. Detective Bryan Gillis did not activate his bodycam during the incident and was disciplined as a result.

Release of Dashcam Footage

The dashcam video released by the police shows Scheffler slowly passing a barrier at around 5 mph on his way to Valhalla Golf Club, before being surrounded and arrested by officers. This blockade was set up due to a fatal traffic accident that occurred on the morning of the PGA Championship’s second round. Scheffler claims he misunderstood police instructions and never intended to disobey them. There are also recordings from a fixed camera capturing the events.

Scottie Scheffler’s View On The Incident

Scheffler explained he was in a chaotic situation and misunderstood the officer’s instructions. His attorney, Steve Romines, emphasized Scheffler never assaulted an officer. The defense is preparing to resolve the case in court.

Disciplinary Action Against Officer Involved in Scottie Scheffler Incident

The officer in question, Detective Bryan Gillis, was disciplined for failing to activate his bodycam during the incident. According to LMPD Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel, this is a violation of departmental guidelines. Gillis received a “corrective action” noted in his personnel file. The police department stressed the importance of all officers activating their cameras in such situations.

The incident has sparked attention both within the police force and among the public. Scheffler himself emphasized his appreciation for law enforcement’s work and regretted the misunderstanding.

Scheffler’s next court appearance has been postponed to June 3. In the meantime, he will continue participating in tournaments, including the PGA Tour’s Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, as both parties prepare for a legal resolution.

Scottie Scheffler’s court date, initially set for May 21st, has been postponed to June 3rd, according to his attorney Steve Romines, who informed the Golf Channel. Scheffler, currently the world’s number one golfer and this year’s US Masters champion, was arrested last Friday before the second round of the 2024 PGA Championship on multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer.

Romines stated that Scheffler will plead not guilty to all charges. “I’ve been defending criminal cases for 30 years and have learned to never be surprised,” Romines commented, adding, “whoever reported [the charges] were going to be dismissed was not accurate.”

What Happened During Scottie Scheffler’s Arrest?

According to the police report, the incident occurred when Scottie Scheffler tried to escape a traffic jam that build because of a deadly accident friday morning. Detective Bryan Gillis stopped him and gave instructions that Scheffler refused to follow. Scheffler then accelerated, causing Det. Gillis to fall to the ground. Scheffler described the incident as a “big misunderstanding” and expressed confidence that the situation would be resolved.

In addition to aggravated assault, Scottie Scheffler was also charged with three other misdemeanors: vandalism, reckless driving, and disregarding an officer’s signals. He was booked into the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections and released at 8:40 AM, allowing him to return in time for his second round at Valhalla.

Scottie Scheffler’s Performance at the PGA Championship Despite Arrest

Scottie Scheffler entered the week as a favorite, having won the US Masters and claimed his fourth PGA Tour victory in five starts at the RBC Heritage. Despite the arrest and tumultuous circumstances, Scheffler managed to finish in a tie for eighth place. “On the course I have always been proud of my toughness out there,” Scheffler told CBS. “I try to keep the off course as quiet as possible and this week was obviously not that way, but I’m proud of the way we competed and posted a decent finish running on fumes.”

Despite the ongoing legal issues, Scottie Scheffler plans to participate in the Charles Schwab Challenge of the PGA Tour in Fort Worth, Texas.

The filing, which was submitted in Palm Beach County in Florida, declares their marriage as “irretrievably broken.” This news comes just days before the start of the second major of the year, the PGA Championships of 2024.

McIlroy’s Statement on Divorce

McIlroy’s team confirmed the news and emphasized McIlroy’s desire for a respectful and amicable process. In a statement published by the New York Post his manager, Sean O’Flaherty, stressed the importance of handling this difficult time with dignity.

The divorce petition, asks for the enforcement of a prenuptial agreement. The couple signed this agreement on March 7, 2017, just before their wedding on April 21, 2017, at Ashford Castle in Ireland. The ceremony was a high-profile event attended by celebrities like Ed Sheeran and Chris Martin.

McIlroy and Stoll have one daughter, Poppy Kennedy McIlroy, born in 2020. The divorce documents request shared parental responsibility and a co-parenting plan to ensure equal timesharing. The petition also highlights that both parties are capable of supporting their child financially.

Thomas Julian Sasser, McIlroy’s divorce attorney, is well-known for handling high-profile cases, including those of Tiger Woods and Jeff Gordon.

Scheffler had already announced beforehand that he would exclude participation in the PGA Championship 2024 if the birth of his child falls within the tournament period. After the birth, there is now nothing standing in the way of his participation in the second major of the year.

Scheffler recently provided an update to his fans via Instagram, where he directed heartfelt words to his newborn: “Welcome to the world little one. Your mom & dad love you so much.”

For PGA Tour star Scottie Scheffler and his wife Meredith Scudder, it is their first child. Although there has been no confirmation from the parents themselves, the official PGA Tour website announced that they have welcomed a baby boy named Bennett. Scheffler’s son was born on May 8th.

The PGA Tour brings us The CJ CUP Byron Nelson, which will take place in McKinney, Texas, USA. The event will be sprawled on the lush greens of the TPC Craig Ranch Club. The tournament, carrying a prize purse of $9,500,000 will see last year’s defender, Jason Day, attempting to maintain his title. The tournament will be played on a par 71 course.

The PGA Tour Tee Times and Groups for the British Players

Ben Taylor from England is all set to play the first round at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson at 13:12, where he will pair up with his group members, Ryan Palmer and Josh Teater from USA. The second day will see the same group teeing off for round two.

Next, Matt Wallace, another English golfer, will kick off his tournament at 13:23 in round 1. His group includes Daniel Berger and Cameron Champ from USA. Wallace will stick with the same group for the second round with the PGA Tour Tee Times mentioned in the table below.

English-man Callum Tarren is scheduled for a later tee time of 14:18 with his group members Maverick McNealy and Chesson Hadley representing USA. They will return together for the second-round together at the same time.

From Scotland, Robert MacIntyre will play alongside Ze-cheng Dou from China and Raul Pereda from Mexico, starting their round at 14:29. They will keep the same setup for the second-round.

The 16-year old British golf prodigy Kris Kim will be teeting off at hole 10 15:02 with American Duo Max Greyserman and Norman Xiong.

Harry Hall from England will begin his participation at 18:22. He will play alongside David Lipsky from the USA and Sung Kang from Korea. The three will team up yet again at the same time for the second round on the following day.

Martin Laird from Scotland will begin his first round of play in the afternoon at 19:17 along with Troy Merritt and Ryan Moore representing the USA. The trio will join forces again for round two.

The other player from England, Aaron Rai is scheduled to tee off at 19:28 in round one, sharing the greens with Henrik Norlander from Sweden and Sam Ryder from the USA. This lot is grouped together for the second round as well.

David Skinns, another player from England, tees off at 20:12 with Tom Whitney from the USA and Paul Barjon from France. They will maintain the same grouping in the second round.

During the third round of the PGA Tour’s team event, a rare incident occurred when Brant Snedeker, the nine-time PGA Tour winner, hit his tee shot on the par-3 3rd. With water to his left and a strong wind from the right, Snedeker sent his tee shot onto the 185 metre hole hoping for a left turn through the wind, but the ball just wouldn’t budge and took a hop along a path before being caught by a spectator, to the amazement of all.

What at first sounds like a made-up story actually happened. A fan saw Snedeker’s ball coming, went to his left and skilfully caught the Titleist out of the air. The catcher quickly turned to his friends, possibly to brag about his performance. Then the surrounding spectators reminded him where he was. Shouts rang out from the crowd: ‘NO! No. No. No!’ The fan dropped the ball and his horror at his own behaviour was clear to see. The group of spectators began to laugh and quickly dispersed. I guess no one wanted to be associated with the guy who caught a ball at a PGA Tour event. Even the commentators on the US channel ESPN could hardly believe their eyes: ‘Oh no!’ exclaimed an ESPN+ commentator. ‘He just caught the ball!’ ‘It’s all good,’ replied the co-commentator. ‘That’s a kid who plays a lot of baseball. He just forgot about it.’

But in fact all was well. According to the Rules of Golf, Rule 11.1a states: ‘If a player’s ball in motion accidentally strikes a person (including the player) or an outside influence, there is no penalty.’ Since the ball was not at rest, Snedeker simply played his ball from the spot where the fan dropped it. In the event that the fan had carried the ball away, Rule 11.1b states: ‘The player must place the original ball or another ball at the estimated spot directly below where the ball first came to rest on the person, animal or moving outside influence.’ Fortunately, it was all half as bad, but the faux pas is something the fan will probably not forget for the rest of his life. Snedeker and Reavie were oblivious to the whole thing. They played par on the course, but could only manage a 72 in the easier of the two formats this week.

The Zurich Classic is one of just a few team events in professional golf. Naturally, the pros make a special point of playing with their mates not only in the practice rounds, but also in a tournament. One example is the Irish duo Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry. The long-standing friendship between these two players is no secret and both enjoyed a weekend of top-class golf. To top it off, they even claimed victory in their first appearance as a team at the PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic 2024.

“We went out there, we had loads of fun, and we won the tournament. You couldn’t ask for a better week,” Lowry said after their win. And McIlroy added: “To win any PGA TOUR event is very cool, but to do it with one of your closest friends … Think about where we met and where we’ve come from, to be on this stage and do this together – just awesome to be able to do it alongside this guy.” And all of this happened because McIlroy “proposed” to Lowry at a “drunken lunch”, as the Northern Irishman told Claire Rodgers before the event.

In addition to the trophy, the duo received WWE-style belts. Well, for McIlroy it was a good fit and a perfect addition to the outfit. Shane Lowry, on the other hand, had a little trouble putting it on.

To celebrate McIlroy’s 25th career PGA Tour victory and Lowry’s first win since 2019, the pair took to the stage after the tournament and sang a perfect rendition of ‘Don’t stop believing’ by Journey.

The fourth round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, part of the PGA Tour, has concluded at the TPC Louisiana golf course in Avondale, Louisiana, United States. More than 80 players participated in the tournament, facing one another in an intense quest for the $8,900,000 prize purse.

The Irish duo of Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry topped the leaderboard with a total score of -25, tying with the pair Ramey/Trainer. After a one-hole-playoff the Irish Duo emerged victorious. Following close behind was duo Brehm and Hubbard at -24. Meanwhile, four teams, Higgo/Fox, Stevens/Barjon, Blair/Fishburn, and Echavarria/Greyserman, tied for the fourth place with their impressive total score output of -23.

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans, a PGA Tour highlight, delivered yet another thrilling round with golfers going head to head, strife for par on every hole and scrambling to climb to the summit of the leaderboard.

The PGA Tour is the largest American professional golf tour. There are 36 tournaments on the tour’s schedule this season. The tournaments mainly take place in the USA, but there are also some international venues over the course of the season. The signature events introduced in 2023 offer higher prize money and a smaller field of participants. There will be a total of eight of these events in the 2024 season. The four Majors and the Players Championship are also part of the PGA Tour. At the end of the tours season, the 70 best players in the FedEx Cup season rankings will play in a three-tournament play-off for overall tour victory and an extra 18 million dollars in prize money.
