WITB: Two Winners, Two Bags – How Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Reed Gear for Success

Two tournaments, two winners – and two completely different bags. Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Reed show that success in golf comes in many forms.

Two different tours, two different winners, two different bags. Although Patrick Reed, who won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, and Scottie Scheffler, world number one on the PGA Tour who shined at the American Express in Hawaii, are both Americans who discovered golf during their high school years in Texas, their club selections have few similarities.

Off the tee, 20-time PGA Tour winner Scottie Scheffler from New Jersey trusts a new partner. He plays a TaylorMade Qi4D driver, having switched in December 2025 after two successful years with the TaylorMade Qi10. The new flagship features an aerodynamically optimized clubhead and a newly designed carbon face with an improved roll radius to enhance forgiveness on off-center hits. The driver is not yet available in retail but is expected by late January 2026 and is currently being tested by professionals.

Patrick Reed from San Antonio, Texas, changed his driver manufacturer mid-2024. Previously playing Ping models, he now uses a Titleist GT3 driver, which offers a movable weight system on a front rail for precise swing customization and optimal tee performance. Reed, 2024 major winner, told Golf Monthly magazine: \”Regarding clubs from different manufacturers: if you hit the ball perfectly centered, they are good. However, I feel this club produces more speed and straighter shots even on imperfect hits.\”

Fairway Woods: Brand Unity, Detailed Differences

In fairway woods, both Americans favor TaylorMade products. Reed uses TaylorMade Qi35 woods, hitting a 3-wood with 15° loft. Scheffler also plays a 3-wood with 15° loft but chooses the proven Qi10 model. Scheffler’s 7-wood is the new TaylorMade Qi4D with 21° loft. Reed includes the older Titleist 716 T-MB utility iron from 2016 in his bag depending on course conditions and also carries a Callaway Apex Pro Hybrid at about 18°.

Muscle Back vs Custom Design: Comparing Iron Sets

Both players prefer low-loft irons, each carrying a 4-iron: Scheffler plays a Srixon ZU85, Reed a Grindworks PR-202. Scheffler’s main iron set (5-PW) is the TaylorMade P7TW series, developed in collaboration with Tiger Woods, featuring muscle-back blades optimized for precision, soft feel, and control. Reed sticks to the lesser-known Japanese manufacturer Grindworks, playing his namesake PR-101A series, which was custom-designed with Grindworks after Reed noticed a tendency for his shots to draw left on the range.

Known for his exceptional short game, Reed perfects his approach shots with a combination of Titleist and Cleveland wedges: a Cleveland RTX6 Tour Rack 52°, plus Titleist Vokey SM10 in 56° and 60°, all fitted with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 shafts. Scheffler
