WITB: Two Winners, Two Bags – How Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Reed Equip Their Success

Two tournaments, two winners – and two completely different bags. Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Reed show there are many paths to success in golf.

Two different tours, two different winners, two different bags. Although Patrick Reed, who won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, and Scottie Scheffler, world number one on the PGA Tour shining at the American Express, are both Americans and discovered golf playing high school in Texas, they share few similarities in their choice of clubs.

From the tee, 20-time PGA Tour winner Scottie Scheffler, originally from New Jersey, trusts a new partner. Scheffler plays a TaylorMade Qi4D driver. After two successful years with the TaylorMade Qi10 driver, he switched in December 2025 to TaylorMade’s new flagship featuring an aerodynamically optimized clubhead. The driver is not yet commercially available but expected by late January 2026 and is currently tested by top pros. Its improved face relies on a newly designed carbon technology with an optimized roll radius to increase forgiveness on off-center hits.

Patrick Reed, from San Antonio, Texas, changed driver brands in mid-2024. Previously a Ping user, he now plays a Titleist driver. The Titleist GT3 allows precise swing adjustment via an adjustable front rail weight, optimizing his tee performance. Reed told Golf Monthly in 2024, \”Regarding manufacturers’ clubs: if you hit the ball exactly in the middle, they are good. However, I feel this driver produces more speed and straighter flight even on imperfect strikes.\”

Fairway Woods: Brand Unity, Detail Differences

On fairway woods, both Americans choose TaylorMade. Reed uses TaylorMade Qi35 woods, playing a 15° 3-wood. Scheffler also uses a 15° 3-wood but sticks with the proven Qi10 model. For his 7-wood, Scheffler opts for the new TaylorMade Qi4D with 21° loft. Reed includes an older Titleist 716 T-MB utility iron (2016) in his setup depending on course conditions and plays a Callaway Apex Pro Hybrid at an 18° loft.

Muscle Back vs. Custom Design: Iron Sets Compared

Both players favor low-loft irons and carry a 4-iron: Scheffler uses a Srixon ZU85, Reed a Japanese Grindworks PR-202. For 5-PW irons, Scheffler trusts TaylorMade’s P7TW series, developed with Tiger Woods, offering muscle-back blades for precision and soft feel. Reed sticks to the lesser-known Japanese brand Grindworks with his PR-101A irons, custom-designed with Grindworks after noticing a left spin caused by his swing.

Known for his exceptional short game, Reed perfects his approach shots with a blend of Titleist and Cleveland wedges, including a Cleveland RTX6 Tour Rack 52°, and Titleist Vokey SM10 at 56° and 60°, all with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 shafts. Scheffler carries three Titleist Vokey wedges
