In a tense playoff, Freddy Schott secures his first DP World Tour victory using exclusively Ping clubs.
Freddy Schott clinched his maiden win on the DP World Tour at the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship 2026 after an intense playoff on the final day. The 24-year-old from Düsseldorf emerged victorious after the second playoff hole against Scotsman Callum Hill and American Patrick Reed, who had also finished the tournament at -17. Schott remained loyal to the renowned Japanese brand Ping throughout his equipment selection.
Driver: Mini Driver as a Secret Weapon
Off the tee, the newly crowned DP World Tour winner prefers a mini driver, similar to Marco Penge, who recently adopted a similar club. Schott’s driver is a prototype model from the Japanese manufacturer, officially added to the USGA conforming list only in January this year. Ping is one of the few brands whose mini drivers are not available to the general public and are currently used solely by top professionals. Notable features include the ‘Prototype’ marking on the sole and the adjustable weight system at the back. The adjustable hosel and the ‘Spinsistency’ branding on the clubface complete this previously unseen model.
Besides this, Freddy Schott carries a utility iron from Ping. Previously, depending on course conditions, he used either a 2- or 3-iron from the Ping iCrossover series, but he was recently seen with an iDi utility iron, also from Ping. Introduced at the end of 2025, this iron quickly found its place in several professional bags. The PING iDi is a powerful long-iron combining modern technology with a compact shape, excellent feel, and high control levels. It aims to deliver maximum ball speed and stability, especially as a reliable option for tee shots (driving iron) or long approach shots.
Ping Blueprint-S for Control and Performance
For his standard irons (4-PW), Schott uses clubs from the Ping Blueprint-S series. This setup has been in use for about a year, with the Blueprint-S irons first introduced in early 2025. Previously, Schott played with Ping i59 irons for over two years. The Blueprint-S heads are forged entirely from 8620 carbon steel, featuring a thin topline, narrow sole, and a matte satin chrome finish. This series targets low-handicap golfers seeking irons offering excellent control coupled with outstanding performance.
Schott’s wedges also come from Ping, from the S259 family. The S259 wedges feature precision-milled MicroMax grooves on the clubface. Their HydroPearl chrome finish is designed to maximize friction and increase spin, especially under wet conditions. This line is the successor to the popular S159, available commercially since early 2026.
