WITB: Freddy Schott Wins First DP World Tour Title with Ping Equipment

In a thrilling playoff, Freddy Schott secures his first DP World Tour win using exclusively Ping clubs.

Freddy Schott claimed his first victory on the DP World Tour at the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship 2026 in a nerve-wracking playoff. The 24-year-old from Düsseldorf emerged victorious only after the second playoff hole against Scotland’s Callum Hill and American Patrick Reed, who also finished the tournament at -17. Throughout his bag, Schott remained loyal to the renowned Japanese brand Ping.

Driver: Mini-Driver as Secret Weapon

From the tee, the newly crowned DP World Tour winner relies on a mini-driver, similar to Marco Penge who recently adopted the same club. Schott’s driver is a prototype model from Ping, added to the USGA conforming list in January 2026. Ping is one of the few manufacturers whose mini-drivers are not yet available commercially and are currently used only by top pros. Notable features include the “Prototype” marking on the sole, adjustable weight at the back, an adjustable hosel, and the “Spinsistency” label on the face.

Schott also carries a Ping utility iron. Previously using Ping’s iCrossover 2- or 3-iron depending on course conditions, he has now been seen with Ping’s iDi utility iron introduced at the end of 2025. The Ping iDi is a powerful long game iron combining modern technology with a compact shape, excellent feel, and high control, designed to deliver maximum ball speed and stability, often used as a driving iron or for long approaches.

Ping Blueprint-S for Control and Performance

For his regular irons (4-PW), Schott uses Ping Blueprint-S clubs, a setup in place for about a year since their introduction in early 2025. Before that, he played Ping i59 irons for over two years. The Blueprint-S heads are forged from 8620 carbon steel with a thin topline, narrow sole, and matte satin chrome finish, tailored for low handicap golfers seeking excellent control paired with high performance.
His wedges are also from Ping, the S259 family featuring precision-milled MicroMax grooves to maximize friction and spin, especially in wet conditions. This series succeeds the well-known S159 and has been available since early 2026.

Freddy Schott’s Decisive Putter in the Playoff

The final club in Schott’s bag is a Ping putter, a brand famous since 1959 for its distinctive putting sound. Schott prefers the classic mallet design, and his Ping PLD Ketsch Custom Putter, crafted to his specifications, offers precise roll and clear feedback. This putter helped him achieve the best putting statistics over four tournament days and secured his playoff victory.
Interestingly, Schott chooses a Titleist Pro V1 ball, like many other professional golfers.
