WITB: Freddy Schott wins first DP World Tour title using Ping clubs

In a thrilling playoff, Freddy Schott secures his first DP World Tour win using only Ping clubs.

Freddy Schott claimed his maiden victory on the DP World Tour at the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship 2026 after a nerve-wracking playoff. After the second extra hole in a shootout against Scotland’s Callum Hill and American Patrick Reed, all tied at -17, the 24-year-old from Düsseldorf brought his first major success back to Germany. In club selection, he remained loyal to the well-known American brand Ping.

Driver: Mini Driver as Secret Weapon

Off the tee, Schott, the recent DP World Tour champion, relied on a mini driver similar to Marco Penge, who also recently adopted this club. Schott’s driver is a prototype model from the American manufacturer, added to the USGA Conforming List only in January this year. Ping is one of the few brands whose mini driver is not yet available commercially and is currently used only by the world’s top players. Notable features include the ‘Prototype’ marking on the sole and an adjustable weight system at the back. The adjustable hosel and the ‘Spinsistency’ label on the clubface complete this previously unseen model.

Freddy Schott also carries a Ping utility iron in his bag. Previously, depending on course conditions, he used a 2- or 3-iron from the Ping iCrossover series, but has recently been spotted with a Ping iDi utility iron. Introduced at the end of 2025, the PING iDi combines modern technology with a compact shape, excellent feel, and high control. It aims to deliver maximum ball speed and stability, especially as a reliable option for tee shots (driving iron) or long approach shots.

Ping Blueprint-S for Control and Performance

For his regular irons (4-PW), Schott uses clubs from the Ping Blueprint-S series. This setup has been in use for about a year, with the Blueprint-S irons first introduced in early 2025. Previously, Schott played Ping i59 irons for over two years. The Blueprint-S heads are fully forged from 8620 carbon steel, featuring a thin topline, narrow sole, and a matte satin chrome finish. This series targets low-handicap golfers seeking irons that offer excellent control as well as performance.

His wedges also come from Ping’s S259 family, featuring precision milled MicroMax grooves on the clubface. The Hydropearl chrome finish is designed to maximize friction and increase spin, especially in wet conditions. This series succeeds the well-known S159 and has been available since early 2026.

Freddy Schott’s Crucial Putter in the Playoff

The final club in Schott’s bag is also from Ping, a brand known since 1959 for its distinctive
