WITB: Freddy Schott Claims First DP World Tour Win Using Ping Clubs

In a thrilling playoff, Freddy Schott secures his first DP World Tour victory exclusively with Ping clubs.

Freddy Schott clinched his maiden DP World Tour title at the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship 2026 after a tense final-day playoff. It was only after the second playoff hole against Scotland’s Callum Hill and American Patrick Reed, who also finished the tournament at 17 under par, that the 24-year-old from Düsseldorf secured his breakthrough victory for Germany. Throughout, Schott remained loyal to the renowned Japanese brand Ping for his clubs.

Driver: Mini Driver as a Secret Weapon

Off the tee, the newly crowned DP World Tour champion relies on a mini driver, similar to Marco Penge who recently adopted such a club. Schott’s driver is a prototype model from Ping, added to the USGA’s Conforming List in January 2026. Ping is one of the few manufacturers whose mini drivers are not yet available commercially and are currently exclusive to the world’s top players. Notable features include the ‘Prototype’ engraving on the sole and an adjustable weight at the back. The adjustable hosel and the ‘Spinsistency’ label on the face complete this previously unseen model.

Schott also carries a Ping utility iron in his bag. Previously, depending on course conditions, he played a 2- or 3-iron from Ping’s iCrossover series but was recently seen with the newly released iDi utility iron from Ping unveiled at the end of 2025. The PING iDi combines modern technology with a compact shape, excellent feel, and high control, designed to deliver maximum ball speed and stability, particularly as a driving iron or for long approach shots.

Ping Blueprint-S for Control and Performance

For his standard irons (4-PW), Schott uses the Ping Blueprint-S series, which he has played for about a year since their introduction in early 2025. Before that, he spent over two years with the Ping i59 irons. The Blueprint-S heads are forged from 8620 carbon steel featuring a thin topline, narrow sole, and satin chrome finish. This line targets low-handicap golfers seeking irons that offer excellent control alongside outstanding performance.
Schott’s wedges are also from Ping, specifically the S259 family. These feature precision-milled MicroMax grooves on the face and a HydroPearl chrome finish that maximizes friction and increases spin, especially in wet conditions. The S259 wedges succeeded the popular S159 series and have been available since early 2026.

Freddy Schott’s Crucial Putter in the Playoff

The final club in Schott’s bag is a Ping putter, a brand known since 1959 for its distinctive sound when putting. Schott favors the classic mallet design for his putters, a style he’s used in the past. The Ping PLD Ketsch Custom Putter, made to Schott’s specifications, offers precise roll and clear feedback. This putter helped Schott achieve the best putting statistics over the four tournament days and ultimately led him to victory in the playoff.

As for ball choice, Schott, like many other professionals, trusts the Titleist Pro V1.
