TGL: Historic Albatross Leads Los Angeles to Victory Over Jupiter

With a strong team performance and a historic moment by Justin Rose, Los Angeles triumphs over New York in the Tomorrow Golf League.

On Tuesday at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, the Tomorrow Golf League (TGL) saw the New York Jupiter Links Golf Club (with Max Homa, Kevin Kisner, and Akshay Bhatia) face off against the Los Angeles Golf Club (with Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala). The match was highlighted by the first-ever albatross in TGL history. It was only in the second phase, the singles, that the Los Angeles Golf Club secured a decisive victory.

Triples Phase: Early Hammer Puts Los Angeles Ahead

During the triples phase, Los Angeles threw the first hammer on the second hole, earning two points early on. Jupiter Links answered with their first hammer on the fifth hole, gaining an important point. Los Angeles extended their lead with another point on the next hole. After nine holes, Los Angeles ended the triples with a bogey and a score of 4:1, as Jupiter Links incurred a penalty stroke on the final hole of the triples.

In the singles phase, the momentum continued in favor of Los Angeles. Justin Rose started the tenth hole (a par 5) with a strong 300-meter drive. Max Homa responded with a solid but shorter shot, positioning New York well to recover points.

Historic Moment: Justin Rose Makes TGL’s First Albatross

However, Justin Rose achieved a historic first on the tenth hole with a 4-iron from 210 meters, scoring an albatross that electrified the crowd. Even Tiger Woods smiled, admitting he had never recorded an albatross in his career. This shot extended Los Angeles’ lead to 5:1.

On holes 12 and 13, Jupiter Links clawed back three points. Kevin Kisner made par on hole 12 after Collin Morikawa took a penalty stroke. Max Homa then secured two points for New York with a birdie hammer shot, tightening the score at 4:5 late in the match.

Closing Stages: Los Angeles Seals the Win

Los Angeles saved a hammer for the penultimate hole, forcing New York to accept it to avoid elimination. Collin Morikawa secured a par to win the hole and practically sealed the match. New York could not recover on the final hole, with the game ending 8:4 in favor of Los Angeles.

With this win and a 1-1-0 record, Los Angeles stays in playoff contention. Jupiter Links
