TGL: Historic Albatross Leads Los Angeles to Victory over Jupiter

With a strong team effort and a historic moment by Justin Rose, Los Angeles beats New York in the Tomorrow Golf League.

On Tuesday at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, the Tomorrow Golf League (TGL) saw the New York-based Jupiter Links Golf Club (with Max Homa, Kevin Kisner, and Akshay Bhatia) face off against the Los Angeles Golf Club (featuring Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala). The match was highlighted by the first-ever albatross in TGL history. The Los Angeles Golf Club ultimately secured the win decisively in the second phase known as Singles.

Triples Phase: Early Hammer Puts Los Angeles Ahead

During the first phase of Triples, the Los Angeles Golf Club threw the first hammer at hole two, earning two points early. Jupiter Links pushed back with their own hammer on hole five, gaining a crucial point. Los Angeles extended their lead on the sixth hole, and despite a bogey, closed the Triples phase leading 4:1 after Jupiter received a penalty on the final hole of this phase.

In the Singles phase, Los Angeles quickly gained momentum. Justin Rose opened hole ten (a par 5) with a powerful 300-meter drive, setting the tone. Max Homa followed with a solid, though shorter, fairway shot, positioning New York to recover points.

Historic Moment: Justin Rose Achieves First TGL Albatross

Justin Rose then made history with an albatross on the tenth hole, hitting a 4-iron from 210 meters. This rare feat thrilled the crowd at the SoFi Center and even drew a smile from Tiger Woods, who admitted he had never recorded an albatross in his career. This shot pushed Los Angeles’s lead to 5:1.

On holes 12 and 13, Jupiter Links clawed back three points. Kevin Kisner made a par on hole 12 following a penalty on Collin Morikawa. Max Homa’s birdie and a hammer accepted by the opposing team helped New York close the gap, making the score 4:5 and raising tension late in the match.

Final Holes: Los Angeles Seals the Victory

Los Angeles saved a hammer for the penultimate hole, forcing Jupiter Links to accept it or risk elimination. Collin Morikawa’s par on this hole sealed the match in favour of Los Angeles. The final hole saw no further points gained by New York, concluding with an 8:4 victory for the California team.
