The new TaylorMade Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons offer distance, forgiveness, and sleek design in a complete package.
TaylorMade introduces the new Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons, a new generation of game-improvement irons designed to enhance distance, forgiveness, sound, and feel, combining playing performance with aesthetic appeal.
TaylorMade Qi Max and Qi Max HL: Next Generation Game-Improvement Irons
A key focus was on the clubface. Many game-improvement irons tend to deform unevenly at impact due to an asymmetrical design with a higher toe than heel, often causing cut-spin and shots going right when hit near the toe. The Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons feature a face designed to bend more evenly, resulting in more stable ball launches and a straighter ball flight with high ball speed.
Sound, Feel, and Internal Enhancements
Beyond performance, feel was crucial. Both models incorporate a sound stabilization bar connecting the back bar to the top edge, stabilizing it and reducing unwanted noise on impact. The ECHO damping system material was moved higher in the clubface, reducing vibrations and delivering a solid sound without losing impact feedback. Individually optimized faces and new internal structures further boost speed and consistent distance.
Two Designs for Different Player Types
The Qi Max irons target players seeking distance and forgiveness in a relatively compact design with thinner top edges, shorter blade lengths, and less offset with the head flowing seamlessly into the hosel. FLTD CG positions the center of gravity low in long irons for high launch and good stopping power, shifting higher in short irons to support distance control. Irons 4-8 benefit from a Speed Pocket providing stable ball speeds on low strikes.
The Qi Max HL irons emphasize maximum forgiveness with larger head profiles, higher faces, and stronger soles and top edges for added stability and confidence. Their lofts are 3° weaker than the Qi Max, combined with ultra-light heads, shafts, and grips to aid players with slower swing speeds, improving clubhead speed, launch height, and stopping power alike.
A New Design for the Qi Max and Qi Max HL Irons
