Dashcam Video Released Shows Scottie Scheffler’s Encounter with Police

A recent dashcam video released by the Louisville Metro Police Department depicts golf star Scottie Scheffler during his encounter with law enforcement on May 17. The involved officer faces disciplinary action for a rule violation.

The dashcam footage captured Scottie Scheffler attempting to bypass a roadblock near Valhalla Golf Club. Scheffler, en route to his second round at the 2024 PGA Championship, was subsequently apprehended by a police officer.

Scottie Scheffler at the PGA Championship: The Police Incident

Detective Bryan Gillis stopped Scottie Scheffler on May 17 as he entered the closed lanes. Gillis reported Scheffler disregarding instructions and proceeding, causing the officer to fall to the ground. Scheffler was charged with aggravated assault, property damage, reckless driving, and disobeying a law enforcement officer, charges he denies. Detective Bryan Gillis did not activate his bodycam during the incident and was disciplined as a result.

Release of Dashcam Footage

The dashcam video released by the police shows Scheffler slowly passing a barrier at around 5 mph on his way to Valhalla Golf Club, before being surrounded and arrested by officers. This blockade was set up due to a fatal traffic accident that occurred on the morning of the PGA Championship’s second round. Scheffler claims he misunderstood police instructions and never intended to disobey them. There are also recordings from a fixed camera capturing the events.

Scottie Scheffler’s View On The Incident

Scheffler explained he was in a chaotic situation and misunderstood the officer’s instructions. His attorney, Steve Romines, emphasized Scheffler never assaulted an officer. The defense is preparing to resolve the case in court.

Disciplinary Action Against Officer Involved in Scottie Scheffler Incident

The officer in question, Detective Bryan Gillis, was disciplined for failing to activate his bodycam during the incident. According to LMPD Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel, this is a violation of departmental guidelines. Gillis received a “corrective action” noted in his personnel file. The police department stressed the importance of all officers activating their cameras in such situations.

The incident has sparked attention both within the police force and among the public. Scheffler himself emphasized his appreciation for law enforcement’s work and regretted the misunderstanding.

Scheffler’s next court appearance has been postponed to June 3. In the meantime, he will continue participating in tournaments, including the PGA Tour’s Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, as both parties prepare for a legal resolution.

Scottie Scheffler’s Court Date Postponed Following Arrest

Scottie Scheffler’s court date, initially set for May 21st, has been postponed to June 3rd, according to his attorney Steve Romines, who informed the Golf Channel. Scheffler, currently the world’s number one golfer and this year’s US Masters champion, was arrested last Friday before the second round of the 2024 PGA Championship on multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer.

Romines stated that Scheffler will plead not guilty to all charges. “I’ve been defending criminal cases for 30 years and have learned to never be surprised,” Romines commented, adding, “whoever reported [the charges] were going to be dismissed was not accurate.”

What Happened During Scottie Scheffler’s Arrest?

According to the police report, the incident occurred when Scottie Scheffler tried to escape a traffic jam that build because of a deadly accident friday morning. Detective Bryan Gillis stopped him and gave instructions that Scheffler refused to follow. Scheffler then accelerated, causing Det. Gillis to fall to the ground. Scheffler described the incident as a “big misunderstanding” and expressed confidence that the situation would be resolved.

In addition to aggravated assault, Scottie Scheffler was also charged with three other misdemeanors: vandalism, reckless driving, and disregarding an officer’s signals. He was booked into the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections and released at 8:40 AM, allowing him to return in time for his second round at Valhalla.

Scottie Scheffler’s Performance at the PGA Championship Despite Arrest

Scottie Scheffler entered the week as a favorite, having won the US Masters and claimed his fourth PGA Tour victory in five starts at the RBC Heritage. Despite the arrest and tumultuous circumstances, Scheffler managed to finish in a tie for eighth place. “On the course I have always been proud of my toughness out there,” Scheffler told CBS. “I try to keep the off course as quiet as possible and this week was obviously not that way, but I’m proud of the way we competed and posted a decent finish running on fumes.”

Despite the ongoing legal issues, Scottie Scheffler plans to participate in the Charles Schwab Challenge of the PGA Tour in Fort Worth, Texas.

Xander Schauffele Wins First Major at PGA Championship 2024

Xander Schauffele wins his first major title at the 2024 PGA Championship 2024. The 30-year-old withstood all attacks and defended his lead against the closely bunched chasing pack. Bryson DeChambeau finished one shot behind in second place, while Viktor Hovland, who was also a long-time candidate for victory, finished third.
View final result of the PGA Championship 2024
The PGA Championship leaderboard couldn’t have been tighter before the start of the final round of the PGA Championship. The top ten were within four strokes of each other, but Schauffele had been the hunted since the first day. And so the Tokyo Olympic champion also managed to fend off his opponents on Sunday at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, USA. Even though he had to make a birdie on the last hole to avoid a play-off against Bryson DeChambeau. The 30-year-old Texan had set the best mark at 20 under par and then waited on the driving range to see whether Schauffele would beat his score.

Xander Schauffele Wins First Major Championship at PGA Championship 2024

Schauffele made things tense. His tee shot on the last hole landed just outside a fairway bunker. Even though the par-5 18th was the easiest hole in the tournament and almost a must-win birdie, Schauffele’s stance in the bunker with the ball clearly above his feet was anything but promising. In the style of a champion, he took a risk and mastered the approach to the right side in front of the green. The chip to two metres from the flag was enough to sink the ball with the decisive putt. With 21 under par, Schauffele wins his first major title.

PGA Championship 2024: Xander Schauffele Interview

Amanda Balionis: Xander, we always knew the ability was there. What did it take to turn that ability into a record-setting major championship-winning performance?

Xander Schauffele: Yeah, I was actually kind of emotional after the putt lipped in. It’s been a while since I’ve won, and I really just — I kept saying it all week, I just need to stay in my lane. Man, was it hard to stay in my lane today, but I tried all day to just keep focus on what I’m trying to do and keep every hole ahead of me. Had some weird kind of breaks coming into the house, but it’s all good now.

Amanda Balionis: It’s never easy. You used words this week to describe your mental state as resilient, as patient. What words would you use to describe that final stretch to get across the finish line?

Xander Schauffele: Yeah, I mean, I think I’d probably be a little bit less of a patient person if that putt didn’t lip in, but I really didn’t want to go into a playoff against Bryson. I’m assuming we probably would have played 18. It would have been a lot of work. I just told myself, this is my opportunity, and just capture it.

Amanda Balionis: Your family is never far away. I know having them close by and their support through wins and losses is everything to you. What is it like to have them with you celebrating in maybe the biggest moment of your career?

Xander Schauffele: Yeah, actually my mom is back at home in San Diego and my dad is currently in Hawai’i and I was able to call him. I had to hang up pretty quickly because he started to make me cry. He was sitting on the phone bawling.

It means so much to have my wife, my brother here. I’ve got close friends, as well, that came down from New York. They make me feel very special, and I’m just happy to win this one for my team.

PGA Championship 2024 Live Blog: Showdown Morikawa versus Schauffele

Live Blog for the PGA Championship 2024

The 2024 PGA Championship will be held from May 16th to May 19th at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. The golf club was designed by Jack Nicklaus and has been in existence since 1986. The PGA Championship has already been held here three times, with Mark Brooks, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy emerging as winners.

Brooks Koepka, Scottie Scheffler and Co. at Valhalla Golf Club

A high-calibre field of participants is expected, with Brooks Kopeka as the defending champion, who was in top form shortly before the start of the tournament with a victory at LIV Golf. But his rivals have also recently lifted their own trophies. Rory McIlroy not only won the Zurich Classic together with Shane Lowry at the end of April, but also the Wells Fargo Championship in the week before the major. He is aiming to repeat his success from 2014, when he claimed his last major victory to date in Valhalla. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who is currently considered almost unbeatable, also wants to have his say.

With the Golf Post live blog, you won’t miss a single hole from the first tee shot to the last putt until the winner of the PGA Championship 2024 is announced on Sunday.

Rory McIlroy: “I’m Feeling Good About My Game”

Rory McIlroy finishes the 2024 PGA Championship 2024 in a tie for twelfth place. Even though he failed to win the PGA Championship again ten years after his last major victory, the Northern Irishman’s final round was at least conciliatory. He returned to the clubhouse at Valhalla Golf Club with a 67. Once again, the back nine of the par-71 course, which had already been weaker than the front nine during the course of the tournament week, caused him problems. Nevertheless, the 35-year-old turned his score into the red on Sunday after two late bogeys. In an interview, he spoke about the challenges of the tournament week.

PGA Championship 2024: Rory McIlroy Interview

Question: The whole week, has it been a case of some steps forward and then back and forward and back and it just wasn’t enough?

Rory McIlroy: Yeah, I think so. Obviously started the week well, and then I’ve obviously played decent over the weekend. As I said, that sort of six-hole stretch on the back nine yesterday, not being able to hole any putts, I’ll probably rue that. Then the 71 on Friday, as well, was obviously not what I was looking for. Obviously put myself too far back.

Overall playing solid, game is in good shape, and I’ve got a week off and then another busy stretch coming up.

Question: The sense that you’ve turned your season since the team win in the Zurich with Shane, obviously last week running away on that final day at Wells Fargo when you found your vintage game, that whole feeling, you must feel like you have to keep it going, certainly for the majors season. How are you feeling about that?

Rory McIlroy: Yeah, I’m feeling good about that. I’ve been on a big stretch of golf here. I think this was my sixth event in seven weeks. I’ve got a week off and then I’m playing another four in a row. I’m feeling good about my game. I feel like things are sort of clicking more, especially after the win in New Orleans. Obviously played well last week in Charlotte. Have a week here to sort of reset and try to get going again.

PGA Championship 2024: Scottie Scheffler Experiences a Pitch-Black Day

Scottie Scheffler went into the PGA Championship 2024 as one of the most dangerous favorites and lived up to this position in the first two rounds despite being arrested in the meantime. On Moving Day, however, he had an extremely bad day by his standards, which dropped him down the leaderboard to 24th place.

Setback at the 2024 PGA Championship for Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler’s start to the round was a big surprise. The world number 1 initially moved down the leaderboard on Moving Day. After his tee shot on hole 2 landed in the fairway bunker, he also failed to play around and onto the green, meaning Scheffler recorded a 6 on the par-4. This was followed by two bogeys and a score that the world number one has rarely presented to us in recent months and years. Scheffler kept his head above water with two birdies on holes 5 and 7 before a fourth slip-up followed: Bogey number 3 on hole 8.

Scheffler was not spared from losing strokes on the back nine either. He made two more birdies, which were stifled by a bogey on the following hole. At least he finished his round with a birdie on the 18th. At two strokes over par, the favorite for the title lost touch with the leaders on moving day.

Tension on the last 18 holes

With a total of seven strokes under par, Scottie Scheffler is tied 24th after 54 holes. He is therefore eight strokes behind the two leaders: Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa. The two golfers were already neck-and-neck on Saturday, so an exciting final can be expected. In addition, they are under pressure from a tight chasing pack that includes Bryson DeChambeau and Shane Lowry.

PGA Championship 2024: Rory McIlroy Struggles With The Putter

Rory McIlroy experienced an up-and-down Moving Day, and although he posted a very good score on the first half of the round, he “only” managed a 68, three shots under par. He was unable to close the gap on the leader of the PGA Championship 2024 by much, so he will have to hope for a miracle in the final to have a chance of winning.

PGA Championship 2024

Rory McIlroy’s start on Moving Day was a little bumpy. The Northern Irishman was shaken awake by a bogey on his very first hole, the par 4-1. What followed was a race to catch up, as we know it from McIlroy. A birdie on the 4th was followed by a birdie series of four birdies and thus a rise up the leaderboard. He suffered a setback on the par-3 14th when his tee shot clearly missed the green and McIlroy only sank the ball in the hole with his fourth shot. Another bogey followed on hole 16, but McIlroy still managed a conciliatory finish when he managed a final stroke gain on the final hole.

Rory McIlroy: “I may rue that six-hole stretch where I wasn’t able to hole any putts”

Rory McIlroy sums up after the round: “Yeah, really got it going around the turn there to get to 4-under, and then I kept hitting good shots and had good looks at 11, 12 and 13, 15. Then I made two bogeys with a missed putt on 14, a three-putt. Yeah, there was a six-hole stretch there, seven-hole stretch where just sort of the putter cooled on me. Depending on what happens tomorrow, that’s sort of the – if I look back on the tournament, I may rue that six-hole stretch where I wasn’t able to hole any putts.” Nevertheless, he is confident: “I have to go out there and try to shoot a low one. I putted really well on Thursday, and then just the last couple days it’s sort of deserted me. Yeah, I need the putter to sort of heat up again, and with everything else it’s doing, there’s certainly another low one in me.”
