Europe’s Ryder Cup Dilemma: Rose Opts Out of Captaincy for 2027

Justin Rose has ruled himself out of the running for the 2027 Ryder Cup captaincy, expressing his desire to compete as a player when the event returns to European soil at Adare Manor in Ireland. The 45-year-old Englishman, who secured three points at Bethpage Black this year, is aiming to make his eighth Ryder Cup appearance as a competitor rather than a captain.

Although Rose has previously expressed interest in leading Team Europe, he believes the timing isn’t right. “The legends of our sport have always said: play, play, play as long as you can, because those are the best days of your life,” said the 2013 U.S. Open champion and 2016 Olympic gold medalist. Rose is also targeting the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and doesn’t want captaincy duties to interrupt his competitive rhythm.

With Edoardo Molinari also stepping aside, the European Tour Group faces a narrowing pool of candidates. Francesco Molinari remains a possibility, while Luke Donald—victorious in Rome and New York—has yet to confirm whether he’ll pursue a third term. “Luke left such a strong impression that it’s made it incredibly difficult for his successor,” Rose added.

Min Woo Lee Commits to PGA Tour

Min Woo Lee has put an end to speculation linking him to LIV Golf, confirming he will remain on the PGA Tour. “There were a lot of rumors,” said the 27-year-old Australian and brother of three-time major winner Minjee Lee. “But I’m not going anywhere. I’m happy with where I’m at and looking forward to next season.”
