Tiger Woods After The Masters 2024: “It Was A Good Week”

Tiger Woods finishes The Masters 2024 in 60th place. The 48-year-old carded a round of 77 (+5) at Augusta National on Sunday. This brought his overall score down to 16 over par. That was certainly not the result the four-time winner of the tournament had in mind. But considering that Woods has not yet played a tournament over four rounds this year, his performance before the weekend is remarkable.

Tiger Woods Finishes 60th at The Masters 2024

On Saturday, however, the slump followed. The 82 deprived Woods of any chance of a top finish. He then improved his score once again on Sunday. His fellow player, amateur Neil Shipley, experienced a relatively relaxed Woods, who chatted with him as he walked down the fairways.

In an interview after the final round of The Masters, Woods spoke about the challenges of the week, why he needs to prepare better for the upcoming majors and why the Masters week was a good week despite everything.

Tiger Woods After The Masters 2024: “It was a good week”

Question: Tiger, it’s remarkable how you can be competitive for a couple of days without any reps. How can you turn two rounds into four moving forward?

Tiger Woods: Well, this is a golf course I knew going into it, so I’m going to do my homework going forward at Pinehurst, Valhalla and Troon, but that’s kind of the game plan. It’s always nice coming back here because I know the golf course, I know how to play it. I can kind of simulate shots. Granted, it’s never quite the same as getting out here and doing it. Same thing, I heard there’s some changes at the next couple sites. So got to get up there early and check them out.

Question: What will be the challenge to get ready for Valhalla, if that’s the next one?

Tiger Woods: Well, just keep lifting, keep the motor going, keep the body moving, keep getting stronger, keep progressing. Hopefully the practice sessions will keep getting longer.

Question: Tiger, no one’s asked you about the meeting with Yasir in the Bahamas last month. What were your impressions of him? Do you feel like you’re any closer to a deal with him?

Tiger Woods: I don’t know if we’re closer, but certainly we’re headed in the right direction. That was a very positive meeting, and I think both sides came away from the meeting feeling positive.

Question: What’s the one thing this weekend that was the biggest challenge?

Tiger Woods: Well, I think that just the wind and what it was doing out here to the golf shots and the balls and putting, how difficult the course was playing. It doesn’t take much to get out of position here. Unfortunately, I got out of position a lot yesterday and a couple times today.

Question: Tiger, in terms of the achievement, not the outcome of the tournament, but the achievement for you personally, how do you rate this performance this week?

Tiger Woods: It was a good week. It was a good week all around. I think that coming in here, not having played a full tournament in a very long time, it was a good fight on Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately yesterday it didn’t quite turn out the way I wanted it to. Today the round that I — the way that Tom is playing I thought I had in my system. Unfortunately, I didn’t produce it.

The Masters Tournament 2024: Jon Rahm With Hole-Out for Birdie

The final day of the Masters Tournament 2024 has gone exceptionally well for Jon Rahm so far, considering the defending champion’s performances in the previous round. But with this extraordinary birdie, he probably tops all previous shots in his tournament.

Hole-out for birdie: Jon Rahm with a magic shot at the Masters Tournament 2024

After a poor tee shot between the trees on the right-hand side of the seventh fairway, Jon Rahm could only save himself with a flat chip back onto the fairway. The par no longer seemed safe at this point and a birdie was certainly out of the question from the Spaniard’s perspective. But, as we all know, one should never give up hope. From 80 yards, Rahm achieved a feat with his wedge and the ball went into the hole for a birdie.

The Masters Tournament 2024 Live Blog: Rory McIlroy finishes Masters with solid 1-over 73

Rory McIlroy is one of this generation’s top golfers. The now 34 year old Northern Irishmen captured various PGA Tour titles and DP World Tour victories all while winning several Major Championships as well. But the Masters Tournament and its prestigious green jacket is still missing in McIlroy trophy collection. Previous to the Masters 2024 McIlroy changed his routines and plays the Valero Texas Open as a test run for Augusta National. He also misses out on the famous Par 3 Contest on Wednesday.

Rory McIlroy – Carreer and Past Results

Rory McIlroy won his first professional event at the age of just 20, launching his great career on the DP World Tour (formerly known as European Tour). Two years later, he achieved his first major title when he captured the win at the US Open with 16 strokes under par, that is the best score ever achieved at this tournament so far. In March 2012, he became the second youngest number 1 in the world golf rankings of all time being just 22 years old, crowning this success with his second major at the PGA Championship in August of the same year.

McIlroy scored his third major title in 2014 with his victory at the Open Championship. In the same year, the Northern Irishman also achieved his fourth Major success when he won the PGA Championship for the second time. That means McIlroy is now only missing a Masters Tournament victory for the career grand slam. And is on a “major drought” for around ten years.

Away from the majors, Rory McIlroy also won the Players Championship, the flagship tournament of the PGA Tour, in 2019. In addition to his impressive performances at the season highlights on the Tour calendar, McIlroy has already secured overall victory in the PGA Tour’s annual rankings twice, winning the Tour Championship and the FedExCup in 2016 and 2019 respectively.

The Masters Tournament 2024: Bryson DeChambeau holes out on 18

On the third day of the The Masters Tournament 2024 yesterday, several players struggled with the demanding requirements of the Augusta National. Good results were achieved only rarely.

This also applies to Bryson DeChambeau, who had to relinquish his shared lead from the second day and now trails the leader Scottie Scheffler by four strokes.

The Masters Tournament 2024: Bryson DeChambeau with good conclusion

Despite his rather modest round with too many bogeys, DeChambeau was able to conclude the third day with a hole-out at the 18th.

All in all, the American can start the final day with a good feeling and hopes for an overall victory. Scottie Scheffler, as the solo leader, has the best chances, with Collin Morikawa closely behind him after a very good third day.

The Masters Tournament 2024: Highlights of Round 3 on video

While the wind subsided somewhat on the third day in Augusta, it didn’t make it any easier for the players. Challenging pin positions required thoughtful and precise play, making birdies a rarity. However, despite or perhaps because of the demanding conditions, there were still some highlights in the third round.

The Masters Tournament

The US Masters 2024, taking place from April 11th to 15th, is set to thrill the hearts of many golf fans. In 2023, Jon Rahm triumphed at the Augusta National Golf Club, securing his second major title. The US Masters Tournament in Augusta is the first of the four annual major tournaments in professional golf. It always takes place in April and is held on the same golf course – the Augusta National in Georgia, USA. For professional players, the Masters in Augusta is a true prestige event and perhaps the most important of the four golf major titles. The winner of the US Masters Tournament receives a lifetime membership at the Augusta National Golf Club and, additionally, the iconic Green Jacket, which can be worn for one year before being returned to the Augusta National Golf Club for safekeeping. Furthermore, the tournament winner gets to take home a small trophy in the shape of the Augusta clubhouse and can look forward to the annual invitation to the Champions Dinner as well as a lifetime exemption.

The Masters Tournament 2024 Tee Times: Rory McIlroy’s Final Round

Rory McIlroy improved his score in the third round of The Masters with a round under par. But to win the Green Jacket, he would have to make up ten strokes on Scottie Scheffler. Can he accomplish that? He goes into the final round of The Masters 2024 together with Joaquin Niemann. Like McIlroy, the Argentinian is on two three over par.

The Masters Tournament: Scottie Scheffler Secures Sole Lead after third round

Scottie Scheffler delivered an impressive performance in the third round of the Masters Tournament 2024, concluding the day in sole possession of first place.

The Masters Tournament 2024: Scheffler early Birdie Bonanza

Scheffler’s round began with a birdie on the first hole, as well as the third hole, bringing him to two under par early in the round. This early gain set a positive tone, though he gave a stroke back on the fourth, rounding out the front nine with a score of 35, one under par.

Back Nine Battle: Scheffler’s Resilience

The back nine proved more challenging for Scheffler, including a double bogey on the 10th and a bogey on the 11th that momentarily knocked him off the lead. However, a critical par save on the 12th and an eagle on the 13th marked a significant turnaround, allowing him to regain momentum and maintain his position atop the leaderboard. In his recount of this shot during the press conference he highlighted his technical skill but also the emotional release of executing under pressure. “And then that putt on 13 was nice because it was trickling up towards the cup. I didn’t know whether or not it was going to get there, and it kind of just nudged right over the edge and went in. So it was exciting, and it was nice to be able to steal a couple shots there on 13 and get back in the tournament,” Scheffler reflected.
He finished the round with a 36 on the back nine after playing another two birdies on 15 and 18 and a bogey on 17, mirroring his front nine score and cementing his lead with a total of 71 for the day.

Scottie Scheffler on Conquering Augusta’s Third Round

During the press conference, Scottie Scheffler discussed the difficulties faced during the round, especially with the gusts affecting his play on the 10th and 11th holes and highlighted the importance of resilience. “You know, things happen pretty fast out there… But it’s a major championship. I don’t think Augusta wants their golf course to be very easy,” he commented.

He described the greens as “ridiculously fast and firm,” a condition that significantly impacted his putting game, particularly on the 14th hole where he likened putting down the hill to “putting up to a small volcano.” This detail underscores the precision required at Augusta and how course conditions can dramatically influence play.

Scheffler also discussed his strategy on the back nine, particularly the par 5s, which were crucial for reclaiming momentum. His eagle on the 13th and a birdie on the 15th were critical moments that helped stabilize his round and also propelled him back into a leading position. “It was nice kind of turning my Saturday around… It’s nice to get a few shots back there on the back nine.”

The Masters Tournament 2024: Tiger Woods’s Turbulent Turn in Round Three

Tiger Woods experienced a challenging third round at the Masters Tournament 2024, finishing the day with a score of 82, ten strokes over par. Starting the round at even par, Woods’s performance was hampered by difficulties in both his long game and putting. Notable struggles were consecutive bogeys at holes 6 and 7 and a double bogey on hole 8, significantly impacting his score.

Tiger’s Trials: Woods Wobbles in Round 3 at the Masters Tournament 2024

Throughout the third round, Woods’s score fluctuated, topping with a glimpse of hope with a par at the 5th hole, but quickly being overshadowed by a three-putt on the 6th and a flubbed chip on the 7th. He closed the front nine with six strokes over par. The back nine continued to challenge him, with additional bogeys and a lack of recovery shots that would have helped to stabilize his round.

In a post-round interview, Woods acknowledged his struggles, stating he did not perform well in hitting and putting, which continued throughout the day. “Just hit the ball in all the places that I know I shouldn’t hit it,” Woods explained, emphasizing the impact of missed opportunities on his overall performance. When asked about his physical condition, Woods noted the exhaustion from the previous day’s efforts, yet remained optimistic about his preparation for the final round, trusting his team to ready him for day four.

Between the Fairways: Tiger Woods Opens Up After The Masters Round 3

Question: Tiger, what was the biggest challenge you were facing out there today?

Tiger Woods: The fact that I was not hitting it very good or putting well. I didn’t have a very good warmup session, and I kept it going all day today. Just hit the ball in all the places that I know I shouldn’t hit it.
And I missed a lot of putts. Easy, makable putts. I missed a lot of them.

Question: Tiger on 9 it looked like that was a painful swing out of the right side there.

Tiger Woods: Yeah.

Question: Was there any moment that was worse than the others today that caused it to be worse for you the rest of the day?

Tiger Woods: All day.

Question: Was it a lack of maybe mental reps?

Tiger Woods: I wouldn’t say necessarily mental reps. It’s just that I haven’t competed and played much. When I had chances to get it flipped around and when I made that putt at 5, I promptly three-putted 6 and flub a chip at 7 and just got it going the wrong way, and when I had opportunities to flip it, I didn’t.

Question: How much did yesterday wear you out physically?

Tiger Woods: Oh, yeah, it did.

Question: How about being ready for tomorrow?

Tiger Woods: My team will get me ready. Club has have been awesome. It will be a long night and a long warmup session, but we’ll be ready.
