Joaquin Niemann receives Special Invitation for PGA Championship

A spokesperson for the PGA confirmed that Joaquin Niemann, currently playing on the LIV Golf Tour, has been granted a special invitation to participate in this year’s PGA Championship.

Joaquin Niemann Receives Special Invitation

As Joaquin Niemann cannot collect any world ranking points on the LIV Golf Tour, a special invitation of this kind is required for the Chilean to secure his participation. Only players in the top 100 of the world rankings are usually invited to the PGA Championship. Although Joaquin Niemann is currently ranked 72nd in the world, he is in danger of falling out of the world’s top 100 by May. This is despite the fact that he has won two LIV Golf League events this season, including last week in Saudi Arabia. Niemann was also successful at the ISPS Handa Australian Open at the start of the current DP World Tour season and finished third at the International Series in Oman.

Not the First Special Invitation

Such special permission to take part in a tournament is not an isolated case, as it is often at the discretion of the major organisers who they invite to take part in the tournament. Last year, eight players from LIV Golf received such an invitation. Niemann himself already received special permission to take part in the Masters at Augusta National a fortnight ago. With the invitation for the PGA Championship, the 25-year-old is now qualified for three of the four Major tournaments this year. The PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club takes place from 16 to 19 May in Louisville, Kentucky.

A graduate of a five-year engineering program at the Polytechnic University of Turin, the 42-year-old Italian began recording and analyzing his own stats in 2003. During golf’s COVID-19 hiatus, Molinari conceived and launched StatisticGolf, which quickly became the most used and trusted analytics platform on professional tours. The system, which consists of a lightweight smart sensor in each club grip that pairs with a mobile app, has long been trusted by amateurs and elite players worldwide.

Arccos recently launched Link Pro, a revolutionary device that tracks a player’s shots automatically without a phone and works inside a player’s front pocket to seamlessly capture on-course data. Ideal for use in professional competitions, Link Pro is the size of a car key fob and comes standard with a wireless charging case that provides up to 12 rounds on a single charge.

Late last year, Arccos announced a strategic fundraising round featuring several of golf’s biggest brands and most impactful businesses, headlined by the PGA TOUR alongside PING, Inc., TaylorMade Golf Company, Cobra PUMA Golf and Topgolf Callaway Brands Corp. PGA Tour live

Through the Golf Post Live Blog you can follow all results on the PGA Tour live. Alongside the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour), the PGA Tour is the world’s largest tournament series in men’s professional golf. The tour attracts prize money that is just as high as the level of the international elite that comes together at quite a few of the tournaments. The annual highlights of the season are the four major tournaments (co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour), the Players Championship and the final FedExCup playoffs, which conclude the season every year. Signature events were created for this purpose. These include the three FedExCup playoff tournaments, The Sentry, the invitational tournaments (Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational and Memorial Tournament) and four other tournaments, which can change annually.

The PGA Tour has gained its importance primarily through its ability to retain top players through the attractiveness of the tournaments and the size of the prize money, which has risen steadily in recent years. The FedExCup is the American equivalent of the European Race to Dubai, with players collecting points throughout the season until the FedExCup winner is crowned in three tournaments in August. The FedExCup playoffs consist of three tournaments: the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the BMW Championship and the final Tour Championship. The winner of the Tour Championship also becomes the winner of the FedEx Cup and secures the record jackpot of 25 million US dollars.
