Membership Renewed, No Suspension: Koepka Back on PGA Tour Immediately

First start at the Farmers, Vijay Singh making a comeback, Charley Hull soon on YouTube. The Back Nine.Expected: Brooks Koepka has officially withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf League season beginning February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major champion will remain linked to the rival circuit but needs more family time. LIV CEO Scott McNeil issued a friendly official statement. Koepka, known as a competitor, thrives on high-level competition, something he only partially found at LIV. He switched in 2022 mainly due to injuries and secure retirement earnings. Questions remain whether he bought out his contract or repaid part of his guaranteed salary. Despite this, he remains the owner of his LIV Smash GC team, now captained by Talor Gooch. Speculation grows about where Koepka will play next—immediate eligibility on the DP World Tour possibly with a penalty, or a return to the PGA Tour after serving a one-year suspension from his last LIV event, following a significant reduction of the lifetime ban once imposed by former Commissioner Jay Monahan. According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally applied last Friday to reinstate his PGA Tour membership, which was not renewed after 2022. A potential suspension would expire in August, coinciding with the end of the 2026 season. Koepka would then be eligible for the 2027 season featuring a new PGA Tour schedule with approximately two dozen $20 million tournaments and elite limited fields—the perfect time for his return, aligning with investor interests in PGA Tour Enterprises. Jon Rahm recently told the ‘Subpar’ podcast he believes Koepka will return to the PGA Tour, likely playing at least his favorite major events, with backing from the player directors and Tiger Woods-led competition committee, following Rory McIlroy’s favorable recommendation. Update: As anticipated, news broke Monday evening that Koepka is immediately eligible to play on the PGA Tour and will tee off at the Farmers Insurance Open in late January at Torrey Pines, with confirmed participation at the WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale. This was enabled by the newly introduced ‘Returning Member Program,’ allowing select LIV players reentry without suspension, considering Koepka’s recent sporting merits, including his 2023 PGA Championship victory. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp emphasized this is a unique chance with a deadline of February 2 and not setting a precedent. This development likely impacts players like Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Cam Smith, while causing unease within the LIV Golf League. Koepka’s penalty includes a $5 million donation to PGA Tour charity, exclusion from the 2026 FedEx Cup bonus pool, and a five-year ban from the Tour’s equity program. Bryson DeChambeau confirmed he will compete in the 2026 LIV Golf League, with his Crushers team intact. Vijay Singh, at 62, returns to the PGA Tour using a career earnings exemption, starting with the Sony Open in Hawaii, after a successful stint on the PGA Tour Champions. The Tomorrow’s Golf League’s second season saw weak TV ratings without Tiger Woods, prompting concerns about its long-term appeal and the need for a new star attraction from Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Mike McCarley. Charley Hull plans to launch her own YouTube channel this summer, following Bryson DeChambeau’s lead. Jason Day crypt
