Matti Schmid starts 2026 as the top German player in the golf world rankings, followed by Stephan Jäger and Nicolai Von Dellingshausen.
Only One German in the Top 100
As the 2026 golf season begins, we look at the rankings of German players entering the year. Matti Schmid is the best German at rank 92 and is also the only German player in the top 100. Stephan Jäger, who was ranked 52 at the beginning of last year, has lost points and is now at rank 114.
The best German player not competing on the PGA Tour is Nicolai Von Dellingshausen, ranked 193. Marcel Siem has moved up after a T14 finish at the Dubai Invitational in mid-January and is now at rank 257. Marcel Schneider and Thomas Rosenmüller are also inside the top 300, at ranks 243 and 276 respectively.
Sepp Straka in the Top 15
The highest-ranked player from the German-speaking region is Sepp Straka, who sits at number 12. Despite easing his schedule late last year due to family issues, Straka is poised to challenge for a spot in the top 10 of the world rankings in the upcoming year based on his previous results.
Scottie Scheffler Leading by a Wide Margin
World number one Scottie Scheffler remains unchallenged, holding a lead of over 200 points ahead of second-ranked Rory McIlroy. The top five is rounded out by England’s Tommy Fleetwood and Americans Xander Schauffele and Russell Henley.
