Farmers Insurance Open Officially Starts: Brooks Koepka’s Week of Truth Begins

LET hosts Access Series in Germany, Jason Day clears up rumors, US amateur skips Masters, ball rollback delayed. The Back Nine.

Last Friday it was officially confirmed: Brooks Koepka is on the final entry list for the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open, between Jake Knapp and Matt Kuchar. Although ranked only 246th in the world rankings, he qualifies through his third PGA Championship win three years ago and the Returning Member Program of the PGA Tour, which has graciously welcomed the five-time major winner back and even featured him in advertising. The interest among fans for the 35-year-old’s first PGA Tour appearance since the 2022 Valspar Championship is considerably high.

With the entry, Koepka’s comeback within the establishment is officially confirmed. The Florida native travels today to Torrey Pines – and is primarily one thing: quite nervous about the week of truth. Or rather: quite excited about the reception. “I know I have a lot of work to repair relationships with my peers. I acknowledge that my move to LIV back then upset quite a few people,” Koepka admitted in a recent phone interview. “There will definitely be players who are happy, and definitely players who will be angry.”

“There’s probably a mix of ‘We’re glad you’re back, welcome home’ and ‘You shouldn’t be here.’ I understand everyone’s viewpoint. Maybe I should have paused for a year and I’m very grateful the Tour has given me this opportunity.”

Players like Wyndham Clark, who is also in the field, are notable. “If someone is upset, I need to rebuild those relationships,” said the returnee. He plans to seek contact consciously and hold private discussions away from prying media ears and microphones. “There is much more at stake than just playing golf at Torrey Pines. I am excited and will be relieved once I get through this first week – dealing with players, media, and some difficult conversations. But I look forward to it and want to have those talks.”
