Cobra introduces the new OPTM Drivers, setting new standards for precision and accuracy with four innovative models.
Starting in 2026, Cobra is launching a new range of drivers with the OPTM driver family, marking a new chapter in driver design. Instead of focusing solely on maximum forgiveness, the manufacturer emphasizes directional stability of the clubhead. This is achieved through the new POI technology, which highlights a previously little-considered measure of precision and aims to significantly reduce shot dispersion.
Cobra OPTM Driver: A New Approach to Directional Stability
The OPTM driver family represents a new generation of drivers where maximum distance or forgiveness is not the only priority. Instead, Cobra focuses on the directional stability of the clubhead at impact. This concept is founded on the newly developed POI technology (Point of Inertia), which Cobra claims contributes significantly to more consistent drives.
POI as a Complement to Classic MOI
For years, a high MOI value was the benchmark in driver design. MOI describes how resistant a clubhead is to twisting on off-center hits along horizontal and vertical axes. POI addresses a different aspect: it measures how much the clubhead moves diagonally and three-dimensionally across all axes. A low POI value reduces these complex rotations, thereby minimizing unwanted lateral deviations. Cobra states this results in up to 23 percent less dispersion.
AI-Driven Shaping and Weighting
To achieve a low POI, Cobra uses a combination of AI-optimized head shape and adaptive weighting for all OPTM models. The clubheads are rounder, bringing the center of gravity closer to the geometric center. Additionally, external weights are placed in newly calculated positions to minimize rotational movements at impact. The goal is to combine high stability through MOI with improved directional accuracy thanks to a low POI.
Four Models Tailored to Player Types
The OPTM driver family includes four models targeting different players. The OPTM LS suits players with high swing speeds and low handicaps, focusing on low spin and maximum ball speed. The OPTM X is versatile for a broad range of players, offering neutral ball flight characteristics. The OPTM MAX-K provides maximum forgiveness with high MOI, while the OPTM MAX-D is designed specifically for slice correction and higher launch. All variants benefit from POI technology and feature a multi-material construction with a carbon crown, titanium frame, and H.O.T. Face hitting surface.
Adjustability, Campaign, and Market Launch
The concept is complemented by the FUTUREFIT33 hosel system, which allows 33 independently adjustable loft and lie combinations, offering extensive customization options and enabling quick on-the-fly adjustments. The OPTM drivers will be available in European markets starting January 20, 2026, priced at 629 euros.
