At the Mitsubishi Electric Championship on the Champions Tour held at the Hualalai Golf Course in Kaʻūpūlehu on the volcanic Hawaiian island of Hawaii, American Stewart Cink secured victory and lifted the trophy. The two German starters, Bernhard Langer and Alex Cejka, finished near the Top 10 on the leaderboard after three rounds.
Champions Tour: Stewart Cink Dominates in Hawaii
Stewart Cink opened with a 66 on Thursday, placing himself early among the leaders. Despite a bogey on hole 16 in his second round, he spectacularly carded ten birdies for a 63 on Friday. Finishing with a 64 on the final day, Cink ended the tournament at 23 under par, standing atop the leaderboard.
The Argentinian Ángel Cabrera followed on the leaderboard, impressing on the final round with an eagle and finishing with five birdies and one bogey for a 66. Cabrera surged confidently to third place after a strong second round and shot an outstanding 62 on Friday. The 56-year-old from Córdoba province played a flawless front nine with five birdies and an eagle to start the day. He added five birdies on the back nine but incurred two bogeys on holes 11 and 17. Finishing three strokes behind leader Stewart Cink, Cabrera secured second place by two strokes over South African Retief Goosen.
Bernhard Langer Works His Way into the Top 10
Bernhard Langer steadily improved his position during the tournament in Hawaii, climbing into the Top 10. He started with a 70 on Thursday, positioned mid-field. On day two, Langer carded seven birdies and one eagle, suffering only one bogey on hole 15. His solid 64 with eight under par gave him confidence for the final round. On the last day, Langer posted a 68 to move up two more places, finishing ninth overall at 14 under par.
