At the Mitsubishi Electric Championship of the Champions Tour held at the Hualalai Golf Course in Kaʻūpūlehu on the volcanic Hawaiian island of Hawaii, American Stewart Cink emerged victorious to claim the trophy. The two German starters Bernhard Langer and Alex Cejka both made their way near the top 10 of the leaderboard after three rounds.
Champions Tour: Stewart Cink Dominates in Hawaii
Stewart Cink started Thursday with a 66, placing himself early among the front runners on the leaderboard. Although Cink suffered a bogey on hole 16 in his second round, he secured a magnificent 63 on Friday with a total of ten birdies. With a final round of 64, finishing at 23 under par, Cink shone at the very top of the leaderboard.
Following him on the leaderboard was Argentine Ángel Cabrera, who impressed with an eagle in the final round but posted an overall 66 with five birdies and one bogey. On the second day, Cabrera played strongly, climbing to third place on the leaderboard. He also delivered an outstanding 62 on Friday. The 56-year-old from Córdoba Province was flawless on the front nine with five birdies and an eagle to start the day. On the back nine, Cabrera added five more birdies but had to accept two bogeys at holes 11 and 17. Despite finishing three strokes behind the leading American Stewart Cink, Cabrera secured second place with a two-stroke lead over South African Retief Goosen.
Bernhard Langer Steadily Moves into Top 10
Bernhard Langer steadily moved up into the top 10 during the tournament in Hawaii. He began Thursday with a 70, placing him mid-field. On the second day, Langer achieved seven birdies and one eagle while suffering only one bogey on hole 15. His very solid 64 round, eight under par, gave him confidence going into the final round. On the last day, Langer improved two more places with a 68, finishing ninth overall at 14 under par.
