Rumors Swirl Around Brooks Koepka’s Potential LIV Golf Exit

Reports suggest Brooks Koepka may consider leaving LIV Golf despite being under contract through 2026.

The initial player contracts signed with the LIV Golf League, which launched in 2022 with funding from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, are beginning to expire. Rumors are mounting that some players may return to their former tours. One of the most prominent names is five-time major champion Brooks Koepka, who joined LIV Golf in 2022. Although he reportedly signed a contract through 2026, Koepka has been less forthcoming than others—such as Dustin Johnson, who publicly extended his deal—about his future with the league.

Koepka’s Decision Could Have Major Implications

According to four sources cited by Sports Business Journal journalist Josh Carpenter, Koepka may be planning to leave LIV Golf as early as next year, despite his existing contract. Such a move could cost him up to $20 million in prize money, per LIV Golf regulations.

However, Koepka would retain his eligibility for major championships and the DP World Tour, thanks to his 2023 PGA Championship win. He could also use the time to serve a potential one-year suspension from the PGA Tour, positioning himself for a return in August 2026.

Many players attempting to return from LIV to the PGA Tour have faced suspensions of up to a year, though legal proceedings are ongoing. The exact penalties remain unclear, especially for players who still hold PGA Tour status. Koepka’s last LIV event was in August 2025 in Indianapolis, and he could potentially compete on the DP World Tour during any suspension period.

Scott O’Neil Responds to Koepka Rumors

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil addressed the speculation in an interview with Josh Carpenter, stating, “I know you don’t want to hear this—it’s all about the individual players, and that’s how we operate. We haven’t announced any players yet, but he has a contract through 2026.” His comments neither confirmed nor denied Koepka’s intentions, leaving the situation ambiguous.

Koepka’s move from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf in 2023 was one of the league’s biggest acquisitions, reportedly costing around $100 million. Once ranked No. 1 in the world in 2018, Koepka’s performance has
