WITB: Freddy Schott Wins First DP World Tour Title with Ping Clubs

In a thrilling playoff, Freddy Schott secures his first DP World Tour victory using exclusively Ping golf clubs.

At the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship 2026, Freddy Schott clinched his maiden DP World Tour win in an intense final-day playoff. The 24-year-old from Düsseldorf emerged victorious after the second playoff hole against Scotland’s Callum Hill and American Patrick Reed, all finishing the tournament at -17. Schott remained loyal to the well-known Japanese brand Ping for his club selection throughout the event.

Driver: Mini-Driver as Secret Weapon

Off the tee, the newly crowned DP World Tour winner trusts a mini-driver, similar to Marco Penge, who recently adopted a similar club. Schott’s driver is a prototype model from the Japanese manufacturer, added to the USGA’s conforming list only in January this year. Ping is among the few brands whose mini-drivers are not yet commercially available and are currently used only by top players worldwide. Notable features include the word “Prototype” on the sole, adjustable weight at the back, a movable hosel, and the “Spinsistency” label on the clubface.

Freddy Schott also carries a Ping utility iron in his bag. Previously, depending on course conditions, he used a 2- or 3-iron from the Ping iCrossover series, but now he has been spotted with the newly introduced Ping iDi utility iron. Launched at the end of 2025, the PING iDi combines modern technology with a compact shape, excellent feel, and high control, designed to maximize ball speed and stability, especially as a reliable option off the tee or on long approach shots.

Ping Blueprint-S for Control and Performance

For his regular irons (4-PW), Schott uses clubs from the Ping Blueprint-S series, a setup he has employed for about a year since its introduction in early 2025. Before that, he played with Ping i59 irons for two years. The Blueprint-S heads are fully forged from 8620 carbon steel, featuring a thin topline, narrow sole, and matte satin chrome finish, targeting low handicap players seeking irons with great control and excellent performance.
His wedges are also from Ping, part of the S259 family. These wedges feature precisely milled MicroMax grooves on the face and a Hydropearl chrome finish designed to maximize friction and spin, particularly in wet conditions. This series succeeded the popular S159 and has been available since early 2026.

Freddy Schott’s Decisive Putter in the Playoff

The final club in Schott’s bag is also from Ping, a manufacturer known since 1959 for the distinctive ping sound at impact. He relies on the proven mallet design for his putter and has been seen using similar models in the past. The custom-made Ping PLD Ketsch putter delivers precise roll characteristics and clear feedback. This putter contributed to Schott achieving the best putting statistics over the four tournament days and ultimately led him to victory in the playoff.

In contrast, his ball choice is the popular Titleist Pro V1, commonly favored by many professional golfers.
