WITB: Two Winners, Two Bags – How Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Reed Equip Their Success

Two tournaments, two winners, and two completely different bags. Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Reed prove success in golf comes in many forms.

Two different tours, two different winners, two different bags. Although Patrick Reed, who won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, and Scottie Scheffler, the world number one who excelled at the American Express on the PGA Tour, are both Americans who discovered golf during high school in Texas, their choices in clubs have few similarities.

From the tee, 20-time PGA Tour winner Scottie Scheffler, originally from New Jersey, trusts a new partner. Scheffler plays a TaylorMade Qi4D driver. After two years of success with the TaylorMade Qi10 driver, he switched in December 2025 to TaylorMade’s new flagship model, featuring an aerodynamically optimized club head. This driver is not yet available in regular retail but is expected to be released by late January 2026 and is currently tested by select professionals. The improved face design is based on new carbon technology with an optimized roll radius to increase forgiveness on off-center hits.

Patrick Reed, from San Antonio, Texas, changed driver manufacturers in mid-2024. Previously using Ping drivers, he now uses the Titleist GT3 driver, a traditional brand that allows precise swing adjustments thanks to an adjustable weight track at the front, optimizing tee performance. Reed told Golf Monthly in 2024: ‘When you hit the ball perfectly in the center, most clubs perform well. But I feel this one produces more speed and straighter shots even on imperfect strikes.’

Fairway Woods: Same Brand, Different Details

Both Americans align on TaylorMade for fairway woods. Reed uses TaylorMade Qi35 woods, playing a 3-wood at 15° loft. Scheffler also uses a 15° 3-wood but opts for the proven Qi10 model. For his 7-wood, Scheffler switches to the new TaylorMade Qi4D with a 21° loft. Reed occasionally includes an older Titleist 716 T-MB utility iron from 2016, depending on course conditions, and also plays a Callaway Apex Pro hybrid configured around 18°.

Muscle Back vs. Custom Design: Iron Sets Compared

In irons, both players favor low-loft models. Both carry a 4-iron: Scheffler uses the Srixon ZU85 from Japan, while Reed plays the Japanese Grindworks PR-202. For 5-PW, Scheffler sticks with TaylorMade’s P7TW series, developed in collaboration with Tiger Woods, offering muscle-back blades aimed at precision, soft feel, and control. Reed remains loyal to the lesser-known Grindworks brand, playing the PR-101A series designed specifically for his swing after he noticed a draw tendency on the range.

Known for his exceptional short game, Reed perfects his approach shots with a mix of Titleist and Cleveland wedges: a Cleveland RTX6 Tour Rack 52°, paired with Titleist Vokey SM10 wedges at 56° and
