WITB: Two Winners, Two Bags – How Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Reed Equip Their Success

Two tournaments, two winners – and two completely different bags. Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Reed show that success in golf can take many forms.

Two different tours, two different winners, two different bags. Although Patrick Reed, who won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, and Scottie Scheffler, the world number one on the PGA Tour who excelled at the American Express, are both Americans and discovered golf during their high school years in Texas, they have very few similarities in their choice of clubs.

The 20-time PGA Tour winner Scottie Scheffler, originally from New Jersey, trusts a new partner off the tee. Scheffler plays a TaylorMade Qi4D driver. After two successful years with the TaylorMade Qi10 driver, he switched to the new flagship model from TaylorMade in December 2025, featuring an aerodynamically optimized clubhead. This driver is not yet available in retail but is expected to be released by the end of January 2026 and is currently being tested by professional players. The improved face is based on a new carbon technology with an optimized roll radius to increase forgiveness on off-center hits.

Patrick Reed, from San Antonio, Texas, changed his driver manufacturer in mid-2024. Previously using Ping models, he now opts for a driver from the traditional company Titleist. The Titleist GT3 allows for precise swing adaptation thanks to an adjustable weight track, optimizing his performance off the tee. Reed told Golf Monthly in 2024: “Regarding clubs from different manufacturers: if you hit the ball exactly in the center, they are good. However, I feel that this driver generates a bit more speed and flies straighter, even on imperfect strikes.”

Fairway Woods: Brand Agreement, Detailed Differences

Both Americans agree on TaylorMade for their fairway woods. Reed uses TaylorMade Qi35 woods, playing a 3-wood with a 15° loft. Scheffler also uses a 15° 3-wood, but relies on the proven Qi10 model. For his 7-wood, Scheffler switches to the new TaylorMade series, using a Qi4D with 21° loft. One of Reed’s older clubs is the 2016 Titleist 716 T-MB utility iron, which he includes or removes from his setup depending on course conditions. Additionally, Reed plays a Callaway Apex Pro Hybrid in an 18° configuration.

Muscle Back vs. Custom Design: Iron Sets Compared

Both players favor low-loft models in their irons. Each carries a 4-iron: Scheffler uses the Japanese manufacturer Srixon’s ZU85, while Reed uses the Japanese Grindworks PR-202. For their regular irons from 5-PW, Scheffler trusts TaylorMade’s P7TW series, developed in collaboration with Tiger Woods. These muscle-back blades are designed for maximum precision, soft feel, and optimal control. Reed remains loyal to the lesser-known Japanese brand Grindworks and plays the PR-101A series named after him. After noticing a frequent left draw on the driving range, Reed collaborated with
