WITB: Two Winners, Two Bags – How Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Reed Equip Their Success

Two tournaments, two winners – and two completely different bags. Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Reed show that success in golf comes in many forms.

Two different tours, two different winners, two different bags. Although Patrick Reed, who won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, and Scottie Scheffler, world number one on the PGA Tour who shone at the American Express, are both American and discovered golf during high school in Texas, they share few similarities in their club choices.

The 20-time PGA Tour winner Scottie Scheffler, born in New Jersey, trusts a new partner off the tee. Scheffler plays a TaylorMade Qi4D driver. After two successful years with the TaylorMade Qi10 driver, he switched in December 2025 to TaylorMade’s new flagship, featuring an aerodynamically optimized clubhead. The driver is not yet available to the public but is expected by the end of January 2026 and currently tested by pro players. Its improved face uses new carbon technology with an optimized roll radius to increase forgiveness on off-center hits.

Patrick Reed from San Antonio, Texas, changed driver manufacturers in mid-2024. Previously using Ping models, he now plays with a Titleist GT3 driver that offers adjustable weight positioning via a front track, allowing precise swing tuning and optimal tee performance. Reed told Golf Monthly in 2024: \”Regarding different manufacturers’ clubs: if you hit the ball perfectly in the center, they’re all good. However, I feel this club produces more speed and straighter flight even on imperfect strikes.\”

Fairway Woods: Same Brand, Different Details

Both Americans choose TaylorMade for their fairway woods. Reed uses TaylorMade Qi35 woods and plays a 3-wood with 15° loft. Scheffler also plays a 3-wood with 15° loft but opts for the proven Qi10 model. For his 7-wood, Scheffler uses the new TaylorMade Qi4D with 21° loft. Among Reed’s older clubs is a 2016 Titleist 716 T-MB utility iron, which he includes or removes from his setup depending on course conditions. Reed also carries a Callaway Apex Pro hybrid in a similar 18° configuration.

Muscle Back vs. Custom Design: Iron Sets Compared

Both players favor low-loft irons and carry a 4-iron. Scheffler plays a ZU85 from Japanese maker Srixon, while Reed uses a Grindworks PR-202, also Japanese. For 5-PW irons, Scheffler trusts TaylorMade’s P7TW series, developed in collaboration with Tiger Woods, featuring muscle-back blades for maximum precision, soft feel, and control. Reed sticks to the lesser-known Grindworks brand with his namesake PR-101A series, designed specifically to counter his tendency towards a left spin observed on the driving range.

Reed is renowned for his short game and enhances his approach shots with a blend of Titleist and Cleveland wedges. The 2018 Masters champion uses a Cleveland RTX6 Tour Rack (52°)
