Cobra OPTM Driver Sets New Standards for Precision and Accuracy

Cobra introduces the new OPTM Drivers, setting new standards for precision and accuracy with four innovative clubs.

Launching at the start of 2026, Cobra unveils the OPTM driver family, marking a new chapter in driver design. Moving beyond the traditional focus on maximum forgiveness, Cobra emphasizes directional stability of the clubhead at impact. This is enabled by the new POI technology, which highlights a previously overlooked aspect of precision, significantly reducing shot dispersion.

Cobra OPTM Driver: A New Approach to Directional Stability

The OPTM driver family introduces a new generation of drivers where neither maximum distance nor high forgiveness are the sole priorities. Instead, Cobra focuses on a key aspect: the directional stability of the clubhead during impact. This concept is based on the innovative POI (Point of Inertia) technology, which Cobra claims plays a crucial role in delivering more consistent drives.

POI Complements Traditional MOI

For years, a high MOI (Moment of Inertia) value was the benchmark in driver design, indicating the clubhead’s resistance to twisting on off-center hits along horizontal and vertical axes. POI addresses a different dimension by measuring how much the clubhead rotates diagonally and in three-dimensional space across all axes. A lower POI reduces these complex rotations, thereby minimizing unwanted lateral deviation. Cobra reports up to 23% reduction in shot dispersion thanks to this technology.

AI-Driven Shaping and Weighting

To minimize POI, all OPTM models utilize a combination of AI-optimized clubhead shapes and adaptive weighting. The clubheads are designed rounder to bring the center of gravity closer to the geometric center. External weights positioned at newly calculated points further reduce rotational movement at impact. The goal is to achieve high stability from MOI paired with enhanced directional accuracy enabled by a low POI.

Four Models Target Different Player Needs

The OPTM driver family includes four models catering to various player types. The OPTM LS suits high swing speeds and low handicaps, optimized for low spin and maximum ball speed. The OPTM X is a versatile model offering neutral ball flight characteristics for a wide range of players. The OPTM MAX-K provides maximum forgiveness with a high MOI, while the OPTM MAX-D focuses on slice correction and higher launch. All variants benefit from POI technology and a multi-material construction featuring a carbon crown, titanium frame, and H.O.T. Face.

Customization, Campaign, and Market Launch

The concept also includes the FUTUREFIT33 hosel system, allowing 33 independent loft and lie combinations for extensive customization, enabling quick on-the-fly adjustments. The OPTM drivers will be available in European markets starting January 20, 2026, with a retail price of €629.
