Tour-Proven and Versatile: PING Launches the s259 Wedges

Tour-tested, precise and versatile: PING brings maximum control and consistent spin to the short game with s259 wedges. The evolution of golf clubs at PING is largely driven by tour players. Clubs are optimized and developed in collaboration with tour pros, leading to the question: ‘How can we make these improvements accessible to all golfers?’

This is how the s259 wedge series was created, the next generation of s159 wedges. Already successful on tours, these wedges now aim to provide golfers of all skill levels with more spin and control on shots on and around the green.

‘The new s259 wedges are already winning on tour and are making their way weekly into bags of players worldwide,’ said John K. Solheim, CEO & President of PING. ‘Pros love the clean look, versatility, and above all the ability to launch shots with precise control and generate targeted spin.’

What’s Inside the PING s259 Wedges?

The s259 wedges feature a combination of wheel-cut grooves, milled faces, and an additional face-blast treatment to deliberately alter the surface texture. This process increases friction at impact, enhancing spin generation and control on shorter shots. MicroMax grooves are tighter on lofts from 54° to 62°, while 46° to 52° models utilize milling designed to deliver consistent results on full shots. The surface treatment maintains friction properties in both dry and wet conditions.

Constructed with a cast head made from 8620 carbon steel, the s259 wedges combine this with a larger elastomer insert behind the face, which influences feedback at impact. The progressive hosel design, tailored heel height, and continuous sole notch support a smooth transition to short irons. The center of gravity is loft-dependent to suit the intended use of each wedge.

s259 Wedges: 25 Loft and Grind Combinations

The new s259 wedge series broadens PING’s extensive offering of six grinds (S, H, B, T, W, E), with optimizations to the E and T options plus added loft variants 50°W and 52°W. These feature a wider, more forgiving sole that integrates seamlessly with the full PING iron portfolio.

The E grind is redesigned for the s259 to present a familiar address appearance with high performance from sand and open-faced shots. The s259 T grind has a steeper heel line, positioning the clubface very low on open shots.
