The new TaylorMade Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons offer distance, forgiveness, and sleek design for game-improvement players.TaylorMade introduces the next generation of game-improvement irons with the Qi Max and Qi Max HL models, designed for enhanced distance, forgiveness, sound, and feel, covering both performance and aesthetics.
TaylorMade Qi Max and Qi Max HL: Next Generation of Game-Improvement Irons
A key focus in development was the clubface. Often asymmetrically constructed with a higher toe than heel, many game-improvement irons deform unevenly at impact, causing additional cut spin and shots veering right when hit towards the toe. The Qi Max and Qi Max HL clubfaces bend more evenly, resulting in straighter ball flights with high ball speed.
Sound, Feel, and Internal Enhancements
Besides performance, impact feel was vital. Both models incorporate a sound stabilization bar connecting the back bar to the topline to reduce unwanted noise at impact. The ECHO damping system material was moved higher in the face, reducing vibrations and delivering a solid sound without sacrificing feedback. Optimized clubfaces and new internal structures support speed and consistent distance.
Two Designs for Different Player Types
The Qi Max irons target players seeking distance and forgiveness in a relatively compact design with thinner toplines, shorter blade lengths, and less offset for a seamless head-to-hosel transition. The FLTD CG positions the center of gravity low in long irons for high launch and stopping power and shifts higher in short irons to aid distance control. The Speed Pocket in irons 4 to 8 ensures stable ball speeds on lower-face strikes. The Qi Max HL irons emphasize maximum forgiveness with larger heads, higher faces, and wider soles and toplines for stability and confidence. Lofts are 3° weaker than Qi Max, combined with ultralight heads, shafts, and grips, benefiting players with slower swing speeds by increasing clubhead speed, launch height, and stopping ability.
