WITB: Ben Griffin’s Precision-Focused Setup Wins in Mexico

Ben Griffin showed nerves of steel and relied on a precise club setup to secure his PGA Tour win in Mexico.

American golfer Ben Griffin clinched victory at the World Wide Technology Championship on the PGA Tour in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Overcoming a two-shot deficit in the final round, Griffin secured his third PGA Tour win of the season. A look into his bag reveals a unique mix of clubs from various manufacturers, emphasizing precision over forgiveness.

Driver and Fairway Wood: Built for Control

From the tee, Griffin trusts a Ping G430 Max 10K driver with 9° loft. According to Ping, this model is their straightest and most forgiving driver ever, surpassing a combined MOI threshold of 10,000 g-cm². The large clubhead profile and Carbonfly Wrap crown are designed to launch the ball higher with less spin. Complementing the driver is a TaylorMade Qi10 fairway wood with 15° loft. This compact-headed club targets players with higher swing speeds, offering precision, versatility, and a solid feel. The adjustable hosel allows loft tuning by ±2° to fine-tune trajectory and spin.

WITB: Griffin Chooses Precision Irons

For his irons, the 29-year-old from North Carolina opts for Japanese engineering with Mizuno Pro S3 irons (4-PW). These clubs are forged using the Grain Flow Forged HD process from soft steel, delivering a solid yet soft feel. A copper underlay beneath the chrome finish further enhances feedback at impact. The compact head design, thin topline, and minimal offset cater to players seeking maximum control over ball flight and shot shaping, with minimal forgiveness.

Griffin also uses a Mizuno Pro T1 wedge with 50° loft, rounding out his Mizuno lineup. He complements this with TaylorMade MG5 wedges at 56° and 60°, which prioritize control, feedback, and versatility over forgiveness. These wedges are designed to help low-handicap players maximize their performance around the greens.

On the Green: A New Putter and an Underdog Ball

Griffin recently switched from a classic Scotty Cameron Concept 2 Tour Prototype to a TaylorMade Spider Tour X Black putter. This model combines blade-like characteristics with the stability of a mallet. Notably, Griffin plays a Maxfli Tour X golf ball from the 2025 series—an uncommon choice among pros who typically favor Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x. This underdog ball choice reflects Griffin’s unique approach to his equipment setup.
