TGL: Historic Albatross Leads Los Angeles to Victory over Jupiter

With a strong team performance and a historic moment by Justin Rose, the Los Angeles team secures a win against New York.

On Tuesday at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, the New York Jupiter Links Golf Club (with Max Homa, Kevin Kisner, and Akshay Bhatia) faced off against the Los Angeles Golf Club (with Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala) in the Tomorrow Golf League (TGL). The match was highlighted by the first-ever albatross in TGL history. It was only in the second phase of the match, the singles, that the Los Angeles Golf Club clearly secured their victory.

Triples Phase: Early Hammer Gives Los Angeles the Lead

During the triples phase, Los Angeles threw the first hammer on the second hole, earning two points. Jupiter Links responded with their own hammer on the fifth hole, securing an important point. Los Angeles extended their lead on the next hole and ended the triples phase with a 4-1 score after Jupiter Links incurred a penalty stroke on the final hole of triples.

In the singles phase, momentum shifted decisively in favor of Los Angeles. Justin Rose opened the tenth hole (par 5) with a confident 300-meter drive to the fairway. Max Homa also played a solid tee shot, though shorter, positioning New York well to regain points.

Historic Moment: Justin Rose Makes TGL’s First Albatross

On the tenth hole, Justin Rose hit a historic moment for the game: a rare albatross with a 4-iron from 210 meters, thrilling the crowd at the SoFi Center. Even Tiger Woods was amazed, stating he had never made an albatross in his career. This shot extended Los Angeles’ lead to 5-1.

Jupiter Links fought back on holes 12 and 13, earning three points. Kevin Kisner made a par on 12 after Collin Morikawa incurred a penalty, and Max Homa secured two points with a birdie hammer, narrowing the gap and intensifying the match at 4-5.

Saving a hammer for a crucial moment, Los Angeles used it on the penultimate hole, forcing New York to accept defeat to avoid elimination. Collin Morikawa followed with a par to close the hole and the match. New York failed to gain points on the final hole, ending the game 8-4 to Los Angeles.
