With a strong team performance and a historic moment by Justin Rose, the Los Angeles team defeats New York in the Tomorrow Golf League.
On Tuesday at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, the Tomorrow Golf League (TGL) saw the New York Jupiter Links Golf Club (featuring Max Homa, Kevin Kisner, and Akshay Bhatia) face off against the Los Angeles Golf Club (with Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala). The match was marked by the first albatross in the history of the TGL. It was only in the second phase of the match, the singles, that Los Angeles clearly secured their victory.
Triples Phase: Early Hammer Puts Los Angeles Ahead
During the second hole of the first phase, known as the Triples, Los Angeles threw the first hammer securing two points early. Jupiter Links responded with their first hammer on the fifth hole, gaining an important point. Los Angeles extended their lead further on the sixth hole. After the ninth hole, Los Angeles finished the Triples phase leading 4:1, helped by a penalty stroke incurred by Jupiter Links on the final hole of this phase.
The singles phase saw rapid exchanges favoring Los Angeles. Justin Rose opened the tenth hole (a par 5) with a commanding 300-meter drive to the fairway. Max Homa followed with a solid but shorter shot, landing just short of the green, giving New York a decent opportunity to recover points.
