TGL: Historic Albatross Leads Los Angeles to Victory over Jupiter

Los Angeles team delivers a strong performance capped by Justin Rose’s historic albatross to defeat New York in the Tomorrow Golf League.

On Tuesday at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, the Tomorrow Golf League (TGL) saw the New York-based Jupiter Links Golf Club (featuring Max Homa, Kevin Kisner, and Akshay Bhatia) face off against the Los Angeles Golf Club (with Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Sahith Theegala). The match was highlighted by the first-ever albatross in TGL history, achieved by Justin Rose. It was in the second phase, the singles, that Los Angeles secured a decisive victory.

Triples Phase: Early Hammer Gives Los Angeles the Lead

During the second hole of the triples phase, Los Angeles launched the first hammer, earning two points early on. Jupiter Links responded with their own hammer on the fifth hole for an important point. Los Angeles extended their lead on the sixth hole. They closed the triples phase with a bogey and a 4:1 lead after Jupiter Links received a penalty stroke on the final hole of this phase.

In the singles phase, momentum swung in favor of Los Angeles. Justin Rose opened the 10th hole (par 5) with a confident 300-meter drive to the fairway. Max Homa also played a solid tee shot but shorter, setting up a good position near the green to regain points for New York.

Rose then stunned the crowd on the 10th hole with a 4-iron shot from 210 meters that resulted in an albatross — a rare feat that left fans at the SoFi Center in awe. Even Tiger Woods admitted he never managed an albatross in his career. This shot extended Los Angeles’ lead to 5:1.

Jupiter Links fought back on the 12th and 13th holes, earning three points. Kevin Kisner made par on the 12th, recovering after Collin Morikawa incurred a penalty stroke. Max Homa’s birdie and hammer throw brought New York close to a comeback, tightening the match to 4:5.

Closing Moments: Los Angeles Seals the Win

Los Angeles saved a hammer for the penultimate hole, which Jupiter Links accepted to stay in the match, but Los Angeles won that hole with Collin Morikawa’s par. New York failed to gain points on the closing hole, ending the match 8:4 in favor of the California team.
