Tiger Woods returns to putting green after surgery at Bahamas event

Tiger Woods makes his first appearance on the putting green after surgery, sharing putting tips with fans at the Hero World Challenge.

Tiger Woods returned to the putting green for the first time since undergoing another surgery in October, appearing at his invitational PGA Tour event, the Hero World Challenge, in the Bahamas. Just a week earlier, Woods had received medical clearance to resume putting and chipping. This marks his third surgery in about a year. Now, the 15-time major champion is back on the course, celebrating a small comeback. In a video shared by his TGR Foundation on Instagram, Woods offered putting tips to lucky fans attending the event.

Tiger Woods shares his putting technique

Woods emphasized a key lesson in his putting: ‘The putter head moves first, just like in the golf swing. The body doesn’t move first, the putter head does.’ He also explained his unique stroke, which appears shorter and as if he’s pushing the ball. ‘I think the weight of the golf ball slows the putter down,’ Woods said. ‘So I accelerate through the ball, but the weight of the putter head actually slows it down, making it look like I’m hitting it hard.’ He added, ‘I just put all my energy into the ball, and in the end, the ball slows the putter head down.’

Hero World Challenge supports Woods’ foundation

As host of the Hero World Challenge, an exclusive invitational featuring 20 top PGA Tour players, Woods uses the event to raise funds for his TGR Foundation. Founded in 1996 with his father, the foundation focuses on equipping underserved youth with the tools and resources they need to succeed in school, their communities, and careers. Supporting the growth of golf is also part of the mission.
