Speculations on Tiger as team captain, Scheffler injury-free, fun with the DP World Tour and the Kordas. The Back Nine.
At the beginning of the year, a little speculation is allowed. Some disguise it as a forecast, a very popular discipline in early January. The colleagues from the renowned US portal The Fried Egg have boldly suggested their view on the upcoming golf year: The PGA of America will offer Tiger Woods the role of captain for the 2027 Ryder Cup trip to Ireland, but the 50-year-old politely declines. He prefers to lead the US team when it’s a home game. The GOAT as skipper at the continental competition on home soil: that would probably break all records of fan hype golf has ever seen in the USA.
Anyway, it would be Woods’ second refusal after already saying no for 2025 and Bethpage Black. This had led to the unfortunate appointment of Keegan Bradley, who has since carried the burden of three traumas following the 2012 Medinah defeat and his omission for Rome 2023. It would be an understandable decision by Tiger. Why should he give up home advantage — even if statistically it de facto doesn’t exist — and risk tarnishing his sporting record away in a command operation with slim chances? The last time the Americans won in Europe was in 1993 at The Belfry in England. Especially as his opponent at Adare Manor could be Luke Donald, who has already bested the US skipper twice convincingly. This again leaves the PGA of America in a dilemma, as few others are suitable for the team captain role. Hopefully, Keegan Bradley won’t have to step in again — Medinah loser Davis Love III was given a second chance in 2016, but that was back home. Well, speculation is always allowed… The Fried Egg team also came up with this:

McIlroy and Keegan: It’s Complicated
A strange constellation: Boston Common notably won their first match in the Tomorrow’s Golf League, thanks in part to putts from Michael Thorbjornsen, substitute for Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama. However, last Friday at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, the ‘Frogs’ faced not only Los Angeles but also an internal team tension as Rory McIlroy and teammate Keegan Bradley had to put on a good front although their relationship has been tense since the Bethpage Ryder Cup.

Specifically, since McIlroy was insulted and attacked by some US fans in a rather unpleasant way. Bradley downplayed the hostilities as merely ‘very passionate’. Reportedly, they reconciled, but before Boston Common’s first appearance this season, the issue resurfaced. McIlroy clearly
