The GOAT Wants a Home Game: Would Woods Decline Ryder Cup 2027?

Speculations about Tiger as team captain, Scheffler injury-free, fun with DP World Tour and the Kordas. The Back Nine.

At the start of the year, a bit of speculation is allowed. Some disguise it as a forecast, a very popular discipline in early January. The colleagues from the renowned US portal The Fried Egg boldly claimed for the upcoming golf year: The PGA of America offers Tiger Woods the position of captain for the 2027 Ryder Cup excursion to Ireland, but the 50-year-old politely declines. He prefers to lead the US team when it’s a home game. The GOAT as skipper in a continental competition on home turf: This would probably blow up all the fan hype ever seen in US golf.

Anyway, this would be Woods’ second refusal after already declining for 2025 at Bethpage Black. This led to the appointment of Keegan Bradley, who has since carried the trauma of defeat at Medinah 2012 and being overlooked for Rome 2023. It’s an understandable decision by Tiger. Why give up home advantage – though statistically virtually non-existent – and risk a sporting dirt in an away command mission, where chances are not good? The last US victory in Europe was in 1993 at The Belfry, England.

McIlroy and Teammate Keegan: It’s Complicated

An unusual situation: Boston Common won a match in the Tomorrow’s Golf League for the first time, thanks largely to putts by Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama substitute Michael Thorbjornsen. But last Friday at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, the \”Frogs\” not only faced Los Angeles but also faced a tense team situation. Rory McIlroy and Boston Common teammate Keegan Bradley had to keep a brave face, despite a special relationship since the 2022 Ryder Cup at Bethpage.

More precisely, since McIlroy was insulted by US fans in partially disgusting ways. Bradley downplayed the fan hostility as merely \”very passionate.\” Apparently, they reconciled, but before Boston Common’s first appearance in this second TGL season, the issue resurfaced. McIlroy clearly expressed that he still resents \”Captain Keegan\” for not calming overzealous fans. \”Of course, you must use home advantage,\” said the five-time major winner on the podcast \”The Overlap\” with UK football stars Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, and Roy Keane, \”but Keegan and co. had the chance to say: ‘Let’s stay calm and try to play this game with the right attitude.’ Some did, but not Keegan. As captain, he could have had the greatest impact and said something. But he did not.\” On social media relationship status it reads: It’s complicated.
