Atlanta Drive GC wins an exciting TGL match 7-4 against The Bay GC, maintaining their unbeaten streak.
Before the third match of the new TGL season, the roles were clear: defending champion Atlanta Drive GC arrived at the SoFi Center with a win under their belt, while The Bay Golf Club was making their debut in the new season. After 15 holes played, the final score was 7-4. The decisive lead came from the team around Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup, especially in the singles format, where Atlanta took four of six possible points. After an even start, Atlanta took control from hole 11. \”We come in here, train, play our game – it fits,\” said Horschel. Even without the injured Justin Thomas, the team is performing well, showing the squad’s deep strength. It was their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches – an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back Into the Game
For the second consecutive time, Chris Gotterup scored for Atlanta – again playing a key role. After a scoreless start on hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead with a par putt from just under nine feet on hole 2. The Bay responded immediately using the hammer on the following holes, taking a 2-1 lead. The first clear momentum shift happened on hole 6, called \”Alpine.\” After The Bay had equalized, Gotterup made a chip-in eagle to bring Atlanta back on level terms. Even though The Bay didn’t use their hammer, the emotional impact was significant: tie game. \”I try to see as much as possible on the greens – it’s not easy with all this lighting,\” Gotterup said later. \”But when you make putts like that, you know what to expect.\”
