Atlanta Drive GC wins an exciting TGL match 7-4 against The Bay GC, remaining undefeated so far.
Before the third match of the new TGL season, the roles were clear: defending champions Atlanta Drive GC arrived at the SoFi Center with an opening win, while The Bay Golf Club was making its season debut. After 15 holes, the final score was 7:4. The decisive lead was secured by the team led by Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup, especially in the singles format, where Atlanta earned four out of six possible points. After an even start, Atlanta stepped up from hole 11 onwards. \”We come in here, train, play our game – it fits,\” said Horschel. Despite the absence of the injured Justin Thomas, things run smoothly, reflecting the team’s depth. This was their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches, an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back Into the Game
Chris Gotterup scored for Atlanta for the second consecutive match and was once again a key factor. After a scoreless start on hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead with a par putt from nearly nine feet on hole 2. The Bay responded immediately on the following holes with the use of the Hammer, briefly taking a 2-1 lead. The first significant momentum shift came on hole 6, known as \”Alpine.\” After The Bay had evened the match, Gotterup made a chip-in eagle, bringing Atlanta back on level terms. Even though The Bay didn’t use the Hammer, the emotional impact was noticeable: a tie. \”I try to see as much as possible on the greens – with all the lighting, it’s not easy,\” Gotterup later remarked. \”But when you make putts like that, you know what to expect.\”
