Atlanta Drive GC wins a thrilling TGL match 7:4 against The Bay GC, maintaining their unbeaten streak.
The roles before the third match of the new TGL season were clear: defending champions Atlanta Drive GC arrived at the SoFi Center with an opening win, while The Bay Golf Club was making its debut for the new season. After 15 holes, the final score was 7:4. The decisive lead was secured by the team around Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay and substitute Chris Gotterup, as usual in the singles format, where Atlanta claimed four of six possible points. After an even start, Atlanta took control from the 11th hole. \”We come in here, train, play our game – it fits,\” said Horschel. Even without the injured Justin Thomas, things are running smoothly, showing depth in the roster. This marked their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches – an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back Into the Game
For the second consecutive time, Chris Gotterup appeared on the scoreboard for Atlanta – and again was a key factor. After a scoreless start on hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead with a par putt from nearly nine feet on hole 2. The Bay responded immediately on the following holes by playing the hammer, putting Atlanta behind 1:2. The first clear momentum shift came on hole 6, called \”Alpine.\” After The Bay had leveled earlier, Gotterup chipped in for eagle, tying the game. Even though The Bay did not use the hammer, the emotional effect was palpable: tie game. \”I try to see as much as possible on the greens – with all the lighting, that’s not easy,\” Gotterup later said. \”But making shots like that shows you what to expect.\”
