Atlanta Drive GC wins an exciting TGL match 7:4 against The Bay GC and remains undefeated.
Before the third match of the new TGL season, roles were clearly defined: defending champion Atlanta Drive GC arrived at the SoFi Center with an opening victory under their belt, while The Bay Golf Club was about to play their first match of the new season. After 15 holes, the final score was 7:4. The decisive advantage was mainly secured by the team around Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup, especially in the singles format where Atlanta claimed four of six possible points. After an even start, Atlanta pushed ahead from hole 11. \”We come here, train, play our game – it fits,\” said Horschel. Even without the injured Justin Thomas, the team performed well, highlighting the squad’s depth. This marked their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches – an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back Into the Game
Chris Gotterup appeared on the scoreboard for Atlanta for the second consecutive match and was again a key factor. After a scoreless start on hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead with a par putt from just under nine feet on hole 2. The Bay immediately responded on the next holes by using the Hammer, taking a 2:1 lead. The first clear momentum shift came on hole 6, named \”Alpine.\” After The Bay had evened the score, Gotterup chipped in for eagle, leveling the match again. Although The Bay did not use the Hammer, the emotional impact was significant: tie ball. \”I try to see as much as possible on the greens – with all the lighting that’s not easy,\” Gotterup said later. \”But after making such putts, you know what to expect.\”
