Atlanta Drive GC wins an exciting TGL match 7-4 against The Bay GC, remaining undefeated this season.
The roles before the third match of the new TGL season were clear: defending champion Atlanta Drive GC came into the SoFi Center with a win under their belt, while The Bay Golf Club was making its season debut. After 15 holes, the final score was 7-4. The decisive advantage was secured by the team around Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup, particularly in the singles format, where Atlanta earned four of six possible points. After an even start, Atlanta took charge from the 11th hole. “We come in here, practice, play our game – it fits,” said Horschel. Even without the injured Justin Thomas, the team’s depth shows. This was their ninth victory in the last ten TGL matches – an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back in the Game
For the second consecutive time, Chris Gotterup appeared on Atlanta’s scoreboard—and again played a central role. After a point-less start on hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead with a par putt just under nine feet on hole 2. The Bay responded immediately with hammer usage, taking a 2-1 lead. The first significant momentum shift came on the 6th hole, called “Alpine.” After The Bay had leveled, Gotterup chipped in for an eagle to bring Atlanta back on even terms. Even though The Bay did not use their hammer, the emotional impact was clear: tie game. “I try to see as much as possible on the greens – with all the lighting it’s not easy,” Gotterup said later. “But when you make putts like that, you know what to expect.”
