Atlanta Drive GC wins an exciting TGL match 7-4 against The Bay GC and remains undefeated.
Before the third match of the new TGL season, roles were clear: defending champion Atlanta Drive GC came into the SoFi Center with a win under their belt, while The Bay Golf Club faced their first match of the season. After 15 holes, the final score was 7:4. The team led by Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup secured the decisive lead mainly in the singles format, where Atlanta won four of six points available. After an even start, Atlanta pulled ahead starting at hole 11. \”We come here, train, play our game – it fits,\” said Horschel. Even without injured Justin Thomas, the team performs well, showcasing squad depth. This was their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches – an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back in the Game
Chris Gotterup scored for Atlanta for the second consecutive time and was once again a key factor. After a scoreless start on hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead with a par putt from just under nine feet on hole 2. The Bay responded with hammer plays on the following holes, taking a 2:1 lead. The first significant momentum shift came on hole 6, named \”Alpine,\” when Gotterup chipped-in for eagle, leveling the match. Although The Bay didn’t use their hammer, the emotional impact was real: tie game. \”I try to see as much as possible on the greens – with all the lighting, it’s not easy,\” Gotterup said. \”But when you make putts like that, you know what to expect.\”
