Atlanta Drive GC wins a thrilling TGL match 7-4 against The Bay Golf Club, maintaining their undefeated streak.
Before the third match of the new TGL season, roles were clearly defined: defending champions Atlanta Drive GC arrived at the SoFi Center with a win under their belt, while The Bay Golf Club was set for its first outing of the new season. After 15 holes, the final score was 7-4. The decisive lead was taken by the team featuring Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup, who secured four of six possible points in the singles format. After a balanced start, Atlanta pulled ahead from hole 11. “We come in here, train, play our game – it fits,” said Horschel. Despite the absence of the injured Justin Thomas, the team continues to perform strongly, showcasing squad depth. This was their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches – an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back Into the Game
For the second consecutive time, Chris Gotterup contributed to Atlanta’s scoreboard and proved to be a key factor again. After a scoreless start on hole 1, he gave Atlanta the lead with a par putt from nearly nine feet on hole 2. The Bay responded quickly with the use of their Hammer on the following holes, putting Atlanta 1-2 behind. The first major momentum shift came on hole 6, known as “Alpine.” After The Bay had leveled, Gotterup executed a chip-in eagle, bringing Atlanta back on level terms. Even though The Bay did not use their Hammer, the emotional impact was palpable: tie game. “I try to see as much as possible on the greens – it’s not easy with all the lights,” Gotterup said later. “But when you make those kinds of putts, you know what to expect.”
