Atlanta Drive GC wins an exciting TGL match 7-4 against The Bay GC, keeping their unbeaten streak alive.
The roles before the third match of the new TGL season were clear: defending champions Atlanta Drive GC came into the SoFi Center with a victory from the opener, while The Bay Golf Club was making its debut in the new season. After 15 holes played, the final score was 7-4. The decisive lead was secured by the team featuring Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay and substitute Chris Gotterup, especially in the singles format where Atlanta took four of six possible points. After an even start, Atlanta made a push from hole 11. \”We come in here, train, play our game – it fits,\” said Horschel. Despite the absence of the injured Justin Thomas, the team performed well, showing the depth of their roster. It was their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches – an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back Into The Game
For the second consecutive time, Chris Gotterup scored for Atlanta and was again a key factor. After a scoreless start on hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead on hole 2 with a par putt from nearly nine feet. The Bay responded immediately on the next holes with hammer shots, putting Atlanta 1-2 behind. The first clear momentum shift occurred on hole 6, called ‘Alpine’, where Gotterup holed a chip-in for eagle to tie the match. Even though The Bay did not use the hammer, the emotional impact was strong. \”I try to see as much as possible on the greens – with all the lights, that’s not easy,\” Gotterup later said. \”But after making such putts, you know what’s expected.\”
