Atlanta Drive GC wins an exciting TGL match 7-4 against The Bay GC, maintaining their unbeaten streak.
The roles were clearly defined before the third match of the new TGL season: defending champions Atlanta Drive GC arrived at the SoFi Center with a winning start, while The Bay Golf Club was making its debut this season. After 15 holes, the final score was 7-4. The decisive lead was secured by the team featuring Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup, who often shined in singles format, earning four of six points for Atlanta. After a balanced start, Atlanta turned serious from the 11th hole. “We come in here, train, play our game – it fits,” said Horschel. Despite the absence of the injured Justin Thomas, the team’s depth showed as they managed well. This marked their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches – an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back Into The Game
For the second consecutive time, Chris Gotterup appeared on the scoreboard for Atlanta and was again a central figure. After a scoreless start at hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead with a par putt from nearly nine feet on hole 2. The Bay responded immediately with their Hammer play, putting Atlanta behind 1:2. The first clear momentum shift came at hole 6, called “Alpine.” After The Bay had evened the score, Gotterup made a chip-in eagle, bringing Atlanta back level. Even though The Bay did not use their hammer, the emotional impact was felt: tie game. “I try to see as much as possible on the greens – with all the lighting it’s not easy,” Gotterup later remarked. “But making putts like that shows you what to expect.”
