TGL: Atlanta Drive GC extends winning streak against The Bay GC

Atlanta Drive GC wins a thrilling TGL match over The Bay GC 7:4, maintaining their unbeaten streak.

Before the third match of the new TGL season, expectations were clear: defending champion Atlanta Drive GC arrived at the SoFi Center with an opening win, while The Bay Golf Club was making its first appearance of the season. After 15 holes, the final score was 7:4. Key players Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup secured much of Atlanta’s lead, especially in the singles format where they earned 4 of 6 possible points. After an even start, Atlanta took control from hole 11 onwards. \”We come in here, train, play our game – it fits,\” said Horschel. Even without the injured Justin Thomas, the team performed well, showing depth in their lineup. This marked their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches, an impressive record.

TGL: Gotterup brings Atlanta back into the game

Chris Gotterup was on the scoreboard for Atlanta for the second consecutive time and again was a crucial factor. After a scoreless start on hole 1, he gave Atlanta the lead on hole 2 with a par putt from just under nine feet. The Bay responded quickly using the Hammer on consecutive holes, putting Atlanta down 1:2. The first clear momentum shift came on hole 6, known as \”Alpine\”, when Gotterup chipped in for eagle to level the match. Although The Bay didn’t use the Hammer then, the emotional impact was significant. \”I try to see as much as possible on the greens – with all the lights it’s not easy,\” Gotterup said later. \”But after making putts like that, you know what to expect.\”

The Californians failed to respond as they could not capitalize on Atlanta’s Hammer pass on the next holes. Instead, Atlanta regained the lead on hole 8 with a point win.
