New holes, bigger green, more cameras and signature holes for each team: ‘We’re playing a high-tech video game,’ says Billy Horschel.
It’s game time: The Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL) returns for its second season at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, running through March 3. The season opener is a rematch of last year’s final between Atlanta Drive and New York, which was decided on the final hole.
Tiger Woods mic’d up for TGL
While the six teams remain unchanged, Tiger Woods and Justin Thomas will not compete initially due to back surgery recovery. However, Woods, a TGL co-owner, has committed to attending every match of his team, Jupiter Links GC, starting January 13 — equipped with a microphone. The 15-time major champion is expected to provide commentary and entertainment from the sidelines, adding a new dynamic to the broadcast.
High-tech upgrades and signature holes
The TGL arena has undergone significant upgrades. The putting green has expanded by 38% to nearly 500 square meters, now featuring 12 pin positions. Two larger bunkers remain after the smallest was removed. The artificial turf has also been reoriented to allow chips with the grain, enhancing shot creativity. Wyndham Clark noted the green is now easier to read, favoring top-tier putters.
Each team now has a signature hole designed by top architects like Gil Hanse and Nicklaus Design. Examples include ‘Bay Breaker’ for The Bay GC with San Francisco’s skyline and redwoods, and ‘Big Apple’ for New York, featuring Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. Atlanta’s ‘Fore-O-Fore’ showcases the city’s skyline, while Hanse’s ‘Stone & Steeple’ includes a church and cemetery, warning players that imprecise shots may have a short life span.
Enhanced viewing experience
TGL has also upgraded its broadcast tech. The Virtual-Eye system now offers better shot comparisons and ball tracking, while 79 cameras capture every angle. The SmartPin Cam returns, delivering live 360-degree views from the flagstick’s perspective. With these innovations and star power like Woods on the mic, TGL aims to blend golf and entertainment like never before.
