TGL Golf Stars Share New Year’s Resolutions Ahead of Season

At the turn of the year, TGL reveals the New Year’s resolutions of its star players before their match day.

Entering its second season, TGL continues with its innovative format: six teams, each with four top PGA Tour players, compete in a 3-on-3 format. Matches are held indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a nearly 250,000-square-foot high-tech complex with seating for around 1,600 fans. Instead of traditional 18-hole rounds, each match consists of 15 holes divided into two segments: nine holes in alternating play (‘Triples’) and six holes in direct singles competition (‘Singles’). The season includes five regular meetings per team, followed by playoffs with semifinals and a best-of-three final. Points are awarded following an NHL-style system, including overtime bonuses.

Coffee, Character, Continuity: TGL’s Take on New Year’s Resolutions

This stage brings familiar faces together, as TGL offers insights into players’ New Year’s resolutions at the start of the new season. These range from small personal goals to larger ambitions. Chris Gotterup approached it practically: making coffee at home instead of visiting Starbucks or Dunkin’ daily. The coffee machine is ready; he just needs to learn to use it. Billy Horschel took a broader approach, aiming to be a better version of himself, especially off the course.

Xander Schauffele Prefers No Resolutions

Xander Schauffele kept it brief. ‘I don’t do that. I’m just me,’ he said dryly—no show needed. Horschel was impressed. ‘We all wish we were Xander,’ he joked. Schauffele responded, ‘I’m not sure… maybe you’d be happier.’

Michael Thorbjornsen had one clear wish: to play more tournaments with Collin Morikawa, who liked the idea but had no resolution yet. Sahith Theegala kept it short and simple: ‘Stay healthy. Don’t play badly.’ As for Justin Rose? He reflected on past resolutions that fell short and pledged to do better this time. ‘No more years where I don’t keep my resolutions.’
