TGL Golf Stars Share Their New Year’s Resolutions Ahead of Season Start

At the turn of the year, TGL reveals the New Year’s resolutions of its star players before their match day.

As the TGL enters its second season, it continues its innovative approach: six teams, each with four top PGA Tour players, compete in a 3-on-3 format. Matches are played indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a nearly 250,000 square-foot high-tech facility seating around 1,600 spectators. Instead of traditional 18-hole rounds, each match consists of 15 holes split into two segments: nine holes played in a team alternate format (‘Triples’) and six holes in direct head-to-head play (‘Singles’). The season features five regular matches per team, followed by playoffs including semifinals and a best-of-three final. Points are awarded similar to the NHL system, including bonuses for overtime.

Coffee, Character, Continuity: TGL Players Reflect on New Year’s Resolutions

This stage brings together familiar faces on the course, and at the start of the new season, TGL offers insights into the personal New Year’s resolutions of its players. These range from small, practical goals to broader personal development aims. Chris Gotterup took a practical approach: making coffee at home instead of stopping daily at Starbucks or Dunkin’. The machine is ready, but the user still needs to get started. Billy Horschel adopted a more fundamental goal: becoming a better version of himself, especially off the golf course.

Xander Schauffele Prefers No Resolutions

Xander Schauffele kept it brief: ‘I don’t do that. I am just me,’ he said dryly—a guy who needs no show. Horschel was impressed. ‘We all wish we were Xander,’ he joked. Schauffele replied dryly, ‘I don’t know… maybe you’d be happier.’

Michael Thorbjornsen had a clear wish: more tournaments with Collin Morikawa. Morikawa liked the idea but didn’t have a resolution ready yet. Sahith Theegala kept it short and clear: ‘Not get injured. Not play poorly.’ And Justin Rose? He recalled past resolutions that didn’t stick—and intends to change that this year. ‘No more years where I don’t keep my resolutions.’
