TGL Golf Stars Share Their New Year’s Resolutions Ahead of Season

At the turn of the year, TGL reveals their star players’ New Year’s resolutions ahead of their match day.

With its second season underway, TGL continues its innovative format: six teams, each with four top PGA Tour players, compete in a 3-on-3 format. Matches are held indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a nearly 250,000-square-foot high-tech facility accommodating around 1,600 spectators. Instead of traditional 18-hole rounds, each match features 15 holes split into two segments: nine holes in a team alternate-shot format (‘Triples’) and six in head-to-head singles. The season consists of five regular matches per team, followed by playoffs with semifinals and a best-of-three final. Points are awarded following an NHL-style system, including bonuses for overtime.

Coffee, Character, Continuity: How TGL Reflects at New Year

The stage brings together familiar faces on the course, and at the start of the new season, TGL shares insights into its players’ New Year’s resolutions. These vary from small practical goals to deeper personal ambitions. Chris Gotterup took a practical approach: making coffee at home instead of stopping at Starbucks or Dunkin’ every morning. His coffee machine is ready; now, he just needs to learn to operate it. Billy Horschel aimed for a bigger picture: becoming a better version of himself, especially off the golf course.

Xander Schauffele Prefers No Resolutions

Xander Schauffele kept it simple. ‘I don’t do that. I’m just me,’ he said dryly – the type who needs no fanfare. Horschel was impressed. ‘We all wish we were Xander,’ he laughed. Schauffele responded dryly, ‘I don’t know… maybe you’d be happier.’

Michael Thorbjornsen had a clear wish: to play more tournaments with Collin Morikawa, who liked the idea but didn’t have a resolution himself yet. Sahith Theegala kept it brief and straightforward: ‘Not get injured. Not play poorly.’ Justin Rose reflected on resolutions that failed in previous years and wants to do it differently this time: ‘No more years where I don’t keep my resolutions.’
